Absoluteley I can confirm this heres how: when i switch to 720P and 1080i my HDTVs signal says the format that it is displaying now there can only be 2 possible explanations for this- My Direct View HDTV is doing the upconverting or the APP is doing it! Definetley not the TV!

Same problem here - can't play DVDs through XBMC. Just a black screen.
DVD ISO images over network work fine, but not the original DVDs in dvd drive.
DVDX2 plays DVDs just fine.

Dvd playback works fine for me in 2004-02-01. I need a transcoder still to see if 720p/1080i works on my projector.

Which drive do you all have?
There is a known bug with the Samsung drives which hasn't been gotten around yet, however this doesn't affect all drives it would seem, as mine in Samsung and plays fine (if not a little gittery).

For samsung people >

Getting the disc key fails on samsung ONLY after first insertion of a disc.
When you stop the scrambled play (can take up to 1 minute before it starts!) and then hit the Play DVD button in my videos playback will be fine.

So:
1.Insert disc
2.Wait for it to start playing (can take up to 1 minute)
3.On scrambled playback hit stop
4.Go to My videos
5.it Play DVD button
6.Playback should now be fine.

This is always the case for me, hope you guys can confirm.

I don't get it... why can the creators of the XBMC collaborate with the people who make apps like "DVD X-2 Dongle Free" to integrate their code into XBMC so that we can have a healthy DVD player?

I look through the bugs and I see things that poeple have written individual code for, and I'm wondering why you guys can't help integrate their code into the XBMC?

I've wondered this myself.  Maybe DVD-x is not open source.  No comlaints though ... afterall, we get all this shit for free.

If we look at all the things that do work in XBMC, you easily forget about the small stuff.

simple answer the Tommy, Philly and Sammy all run on different Firmware Versions that are exclusive to that drive. I suggest if you want the Sammy and Philly to be supported then Donate a couple bucks, If everyone donated a couple bucks im sure the developers can get an xbox with those drives and therefore have this fixed as soon as possible!

I believe you.  What I was implying is whether or not the upsampling was "intelligent" or if it was just simple doubling.  I gotta believe that the video stretching algorithm is a basic feature of the XBOX development kit.  I mean, the video scalling on emulators like FBaX look perfect.   I gotta believe that the XBOX does as good of a job as any line doubler to playback DVDs in 1080i mode.

BTW, if a DVD has anamorphic 16x9, will it use that?
