It was most likely some guy who happened to be working for sony who edited it while bored at work or who thought the game was overhyped, i doubt their PR group made some calls to have people edit it
I actually don't doubt Sony endorsed this action. (even.,. if it was to laugh at it after the fact and not correct it when some un-named employee took 2 minutes to screw with wikipedia instead of working to pump out something we can actually enjoy on the ps3)
Sony has launched a number of attempts in the recent past to mislead the public and were caught during those attempts as well. Most notably the "independent" fan blogs.
When will Sony, and for that matter all the devs realize that the best way to push your product is to make a good product and support it. Bashing the competition and trying to trash talk them does little to move your own products. It does show that their own product is weak when the best they can do is shit on other products.
Nintendo didn't have to shit talk anyone and they're currently successful.
MS isn't shit talking the PS3, although to do alot of product comparisons but that isn't quite the same. Despite glaring hardware issues, MS is successful.
Sony will need to focus on the PS3, and the PS3 alone in order to improve it. (while it makes good money sense to support the ps2 during the next 4 years which they've stated they will.. that's time, money, and resources NOT focused on the PS3.)
Alot of people shit on MS for dropping support on the original Xbox. But.. at least they went full throttle with the new console, ready or not.
PS3 needs the same support. The console needs to be more competitive, whether that means a better price or bundling I don't know.
Having powerful tech under the hood clearly isn't enough to push the ps3 into the hearts and homes of the ps faithful. given the ps2 installed base.. if the ps3 had anything worth playing on it I'm convinved it would be sold it 24/7 and have double the wii and 360 game sales combined. Instead, the Ps3 has the lowest console sales, and the lowest in the more important attach rates. (rate at which people buy games, and add-ons)
Heading into the 1 year anniversary I've seen stories where the attach rate is something like 2 games and 1 movie and one controller per ps3 sold. (I've also seen better rates posted.. but I put a lower stock on some of those fanboy reports.)
Sony can, and will likely be the king again. they simply have to decide to focas on the product.
