I believe 4 player online co-op will be sweet, however i really hope they leave at least 2 player local co-op as an option. The lack of local multiplayer games for the 360 or any new console for that matter is really starting to burn me.
It seems to me console designers have started going backwards on this one. The first console I owned was a NES 2 player, then a SNES 4 player, then a N64 4 player, xbox 4 player, now a 360 and im down to one player on most things. Its not that i enjoy having my screen cut up down and sideways, but if my wife, kid, budy, etc... wants to play with me i dont think i should have to buy another console so they can play online or sys link from another room.
Am I alone here?
Sorry for the rant.
2 Player co-op on 1 Xbox 360 is stated in the article. As for 4-player co-op on one Xbox 360. I don't think the Xbox 360 could handle that, in fact, I seriously doubt it would, without seriously comprising graphics.
This isn't new though, remember Perfect Dark for the N64? I remember playing with 4 player co-op multiplayer and it would get really choppy with only a couple of bots in the game. It is only natural that graphics would surpass a certain point where having to render so much on 3-4 screens gets too resource demanding, and thus is being cut out of many newer games. I'm sure that if it were possible for most games that slash 1 system co-op or 3-4 player, without comprising graphics to severely, they would do it, but the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii will be limited by hardware every time unless graphics are chomped.
