alright its been a while since I've read the books, The master chief is part of the SPARTAN II project there were several others in the program(like 200) he had a friend that was a girl so I believe that she is on of the female Spartans.

Cortana is a advanced A.I. she was never a real person.

Yes she is a smart AI created from the brain pattern of Dr. Halsey. The female spartan you are thinking of is named Kelly.

No the girl is not Cortana as eric said she is only an AI.

But to shed some light, the scene takes place on Earth it was stated by bungie that thats where it occurs. MC has never been to Earth, until after he was a Spartan. He was born on an Earth colony in another solar system.   Right now my belief is that the kids are just two kids from Earth before the battle at Harvest (the first Covenant contact) So I still stand by the kids are not Spartans, they are just curious Earth kids.

1.  Not Master Chief.  All Spartans are bred in colonies as another poster mentioned.  Hell, they don't even have sex organs.  Besides kicking major ass, it kinda sucks to be MC.
2.  Not Cortana.  She's purely AI.  Never had the pleasure of well...  being pleasured.  wink.gif
3.  Kids in a field, yeah.  It's just some kids in a field staring at the stars.  It does happen you know.
4.  "I know your past..."  Yeah, Cortana does know Master Chief's past.  Have you ever played Halo 1?  That's in the past you know?
