Will You Participate?
« on: November 30, 2006, 05:27:00 PM »

It seems like a simple answer at first.  Will you sign up for and download the demo/beta when it becomes available.  Will you eagerly await screenshots and trailers?
But, when we look at it we realize there are a lot of bad things about doing this as well:
HYPE
Hype can and does kill games for quite a few people.  Some people would claim that the tremendous hype surrounding Halo 2 ruined the game for them while others would say it only made the game THAT much better when they actually had a chance to play it.
So, my question to you is:
Will you be playing the beta/demo (an unfinished product) and follwing the game through trailers and photos, or will you be waiting for launch where every new feature and well-modeled character will be a wlecome surprise?

Me... I can't say yet.  I love my Halo... LOVE it, but I don't want to see and play a nonfinished product.  At $60 a game (knowing me I will go for the Legendary Pack=MegaBucks), I don't want to be impressed or get what I expect, I want to be WOWED.

How about you?

Nice post, CK.
How long have we been saying this?  Since the release of Halo 2, when everybody bitched and moaned how it wasn't the EXACT same as Halo.

For me personally, I will read everything I can find about the game.  I'll participate in any beta testing I can, download everything available.  Mainly because I like being the guy about whom people say, "Ask him, because he knows!"

I won't be disappointed with Halo 3 ( I don't think), because my expectations are fairly low.  I don't have PS3 style hype built-up in my head.  I expect it to be different.  I don't expect it to be world shattering.

I think what will be the key is, once again, it's utilization of Xbox Live.  Halo 2 broke new ground with it's matchmaking greatness, parties, etc.  If Halo 3 just follows that up with new weapons, maps, gameplay, tactics, and a few key additions (FULL OPPOSING TEAM ONE-BUTTON MUTE FEATURE!!!), I'll be OK.

That and increase halo2's 70* FoV (field of vision) back to halo1's 90* FoV, for Halo 3; i hate running around as if with blinders and having everything zoomed in.

I will participate in the beta if I can, and I will also read every single piece of Halo related new that becomes available in the next year. Halo is the reason I bought an Xbox, and ultimately, why I got a 360. I did get sucked into the hype of Halo 2. Sure there were some things about the game I didn't like, but in the end, Halo and Halo 2 are not the same game, and you have to appreciate all the unique things about each game. I'm sure there will be even more hype for Halo 3, and some people will believe every bit of it, and be unhappy when they actually get the game. I have a strong feeling that there will be a bunch of people complaining about how Halo 3 is not as good as Halo 1. But for all they're complaints, they will still be playing Halo 3 for hours on end like the rest of us. And I agree with Cosmo, it's fun being the person that everyone comes to because they know you are the expert on all things Halo. cool.gif

I really don't know why people that loved Halo hated Halo 2, I loved both and was blown away by both Halo and Halo 2, maybe I am just easily impressed, but the little nuances that everyone bitches about are just tiny details, I loved/ played the single player before I ever even glanced at Live and loved every second of it. Halo 2 is just as good as Halo, in every aspect. I will definitely try to get on the beta testers, I love everything Halo and can't wait to play H3.

On a side note the Halo 2 story might have been "weak" for people that did not follow the halo trilogy of books which the games absolutely flowed with them.

Now I'll sit and cross my fingers hoping that I might get picked, I don't listen to hype all I care about is the result, I love the Halo universe and I'll love H3 as long as it sticks to true fps style spray and pray. not this dodge to cover set up tactics, just mind numbing bullet dodging.

Halo 2's multiplayer was far suprior, by far.

However the single player was lacking in halo 2. Gone are the long levels, the massive outside areas, a decent pistol and AR. Halo 2's change in graphics and lighting wasn't popular with some either.

It was just the let down on the single player really, but to be fair was it 2 or 3 levels that were cut from the final game?

Halo 1's single player was just so big. Big battles, big explosions, big warthog jumps. I don't reacall a battle like at the end of two betrayals (halo 1) in halo 2 on legendary.

The single player levels in halo 2 were also less than perfect. Halo 1's levels were tested to the max, there were very few and possible no glitches in single player and it even became a sport to get out of the level at HBO.

Halo 3 will suceed were halo 2 failed though. Gone are the pop-up graphics, open areas return as does the AR.

A remake of halo on the x360 is what I'm hoping for and I think Halo 3 will do that and more. The single player of halo 1 and the multiplayer of halo 2 and it is perfect.

Ill be all over anything I can get my hands on.  I like seeing new things before stuff comes out.

Halo 2 was always awesome to me.  The multiplayer online only got bad when v1.1 came out.  It changed the gameplay so much.

I do agree that I missed the huge outdoor levels, and I really wanted to do more fighting on earth, but that was the only thing I really missed. I could have cared less about the arbiter maybe that also cut into most peoples views of the singleplayer. Gliches don't really bug me as long as they dont cause colossal failure. I never really like the unheathly power the pistol had and the AR was nice but I love the BR too. The fact that both are back is awesome, but does that men the SMG's are going to be gone? I did not like some of the dumb combos (Power Pistol and BR) but then again every game has its weakness and that turned out to be it. But overall Halo 2 was a great game. The only thing I could really want from Halo 3 would be big outside battles, and to keep the Multiplayer very similar to the H2 Matchmaking.

If only there are battle like in Halo Wars CG in the game, *sigh* maybe in the non-existant movie there will be.

I'm excited for halo 3 Gonna participate with beta testing as mush as I can and read all the updates.

This is why I think Halo 1 had better multi player:

1  Balance with the pistol. I know your thinking that the pistol was overpowering for a pistol, but when you spawned it was less of a mad dash to get a better weapon.  If you were good you could take on a sniper a rocket guy anyone,  The SMG you can't it's pretty useless at midrange.

2  The melee was better because if you missed you wouldn't find your back facing them all confused.

Those are the 2 reasons and I hope they fix those in halo 3.  I can't wait to test out the new weapons and especially the new AR.
