I "hope" you're right.
I can't say much for how Bungie works on both the main campaign mode and multiplayer mode.
My memory is a blur at this moment but as for the rumor that Halo 2 was split and half and that H3's using a modified H2 engine, they come from Dean Takahashi's new book "The XBox 360 Uncloaked".
Actually the rumors have been floating around longer than that, way before the book came out but according to Takahashi, his inside sources confirm the rumors.
Why am I putting stock into what this cat is saying?
Some of his stuff has turned out to be true, M$ has even responded to some of his revelations and has ignored what he's revealed on what went on behind the scenes in the creation of H2.
But as I said, it's all just "rumors" so to each his own.
http://1up.com/do/fe...d=3150432&did=1Yeah the pistol was just way too powerful.
Realism has little to do with it, it's more like weapon balance.
Own the pistol, and you own the match (with the exception of a good camping sniper).
A toned down scoped pistol? Maybe....
But a pistol as powerful as the one in Halo? Hell no....
I'm more concerned with the multiplayer maps than anything else.
Halo had better overall maps than the first batch of maps that came in H2.
Of coarse the new downloadable map pack maps are great, but I just hope Bungie finds a better more diverse range of maps for the release of H3....
i understand and agree. there may be a lot of truth behind these rumors. regardless of how good the engine is now, like i said, they could have used some assets from the halo 2 engine as their starting point which could be percieved as upgrading the halo 2 engine. but they would have to rewritten so much of the engine to take advantage of the newest technologies and to work on the entirely different architecture of the 360 vs the xbox1 that in the end it would just equal a new engine. its all a matter of perception, when most people say upgraded engine, i think splinter cell chaos theory (unreal 2.5 engine) or 99 nights (with upgraded KoF engine) but when people hint or talk about a new engine i think of massive reworking of code to adapt to next gen technology regardless of the starting point. I'm sure there were some assets from the unreal 2 engine that was used in the beginning of creating the unreal 3 engine, same difference here IMO. Regardless, its obvious from the trailer and interview that it is running on a next gen engine, which is the important part.
I didnt know that you got the info from the new 360 book. I would believe what is written in there also (with the right source) as the first one on the xbox was a GREAT book IMO. i take a huge interest in the game industry and all the workings that we dont see behind closed doors and that book was an excellent read. I didnt know the 360 one was out already, where can i find it? i have been waiting for that book since i found out about it months ago.
as far as the pistol goes, yes i agree that the pistol in part one was a wii bit too powerful. however i do miss the scope from part one, so if they just make the pistol in halo 2 with a scope, then it would be golden. regardless of anyone's opinion, people must realize that one of the key things to pay attention to when it comes to multiplayer is balance. it doesnt matter if its racing, fighting, shooting, or strategy you need to have a good balance to truely be a fun and competitive multiplayer. while the pistol was a great weapon in part one, some may argue that those who abused it lacked the true skill to be good with anything but the pistol and that speaks volumes IMO.
