Cant be a good thing that multiplayer is working.

We all remember what happened with Halo 2. They blew all their time playing the game instead of working on it.

I don't think they'll make the same mistake twice... I HOPE they won't.  They know what we all expect, and I'm pretty sure they won't disappoint... they have as much time as they want.

well with halo2 they wanted to try something diffrent and they saw that some liked it but most people wanted halo1 style back. i think that they will spend more time making it halo1'ish this time around. well if they were smart they will. dont get me wrong. i liked halo2 and all (mostly because everyone played it and made for a great social time w/ friends) but once all the modding and glitching started, people stopped playing and that made it boring (i RARELY ran into standbyers or modders lol). i just hope they add some sort of map check so it checks everyones maps w/ an unmoddified map (like at their end). it might take a lil longer for the game to start but it would be worth it. personaly i dont care if i have t wait 20 seconds for the round to start as long as it gets the modders out

Hey, give me an atv and let me ride back to back with a buddy in multiplayer and I'm good.  Hell, give me Halo 2 all over again with Halo 1 multiplayer maps and weapons, name it Halo 3, and I'll buy it.

I mainly hope for an atv in H3.  Is that too much to ask?

Interesting....
I always thought H3 would launch towards the end of 07.
But if they're already testing the MP modes then it can be out as early as Spring 07.
I didn't expect the game to be so far into developement....

This might fuel the rumor that Halo 2 was split into two.
And that H3 is actually the second half of Halo 2, which might explain H2's cliffhanger ending.
Also the rumor that H3's simply running on a modified Halo 2 engine seems possible now....

Either way, personally this is bad news.
I wanted to see a H3 built from ground up with the Xbox 360 in mind....
Oh well I'll still love the game but I really hope I'm very off with my speculations....

i honestly dont think this fuels any rumors.  i think it makes sense that multiplayer is already up and running.  if the team is working on halo 3 like they did halo 2, then that would mean that they have the team split up into two groups.  one for single player and a very few working on multiplayer.  if this is the case then again this news makes sense, multiplayer is by far easier to get up and running then the single player which also could be up and running.  actually by the hints dropped by bungie, i do believe that the single player is already running, its just a question to how much of it is done by now.  i still believe that it will be released at the end of 07, because a single player mode will require a lot more work and man hours.

as far as halo 2 being split into two, i dont think this to be true.  they were working down to the wire to get halo 2 done that i think it would set them back to cut a game in half and just insert an ending.  yes it did end unexpectendly but i think that was intended.  halo 1 ended with us wanting more and i think they tried to do the same thing for part 2 but maybe went a bit overboard.  i do believe however that a lot of concepts and design choices were thought of, started, or imagined during halo 2's development that they are using for halo 3 but that is normal in game development.  usually a lot of ideas or concepts that get put on the cutting floor usually resurface for the sequal.  i think the biggest set back for bungie during halo 2 was that they set their goals too high and when reality hit them everything came crashing down and it was back to the drawing board for a good portion of the game.

for the engine, i dont know how scalable graphics engines really are (though i understand that they are pretty flexible) but i highly doubt that this is a reworked halo 2 engine.  maybe some assets were used for a starting point but i believe that this engine has been created with the 360 in mind, the halo 3 engine was one of the most beautiful graphical showcases at this E3 and i dont think that would have been possible with an upgraded engine.  also from the reports on the engine, there are a lot of next gen effects that i dont think could so easily be "tacked on" without extensive work.  these effects are only on the most bleeding edge engines (unreal 3, offset, etc.) and seem to make good use of the 360's GPU.  Look at 99 nights for example, that game uses the KoF engine but was reworked for the 360, however you can still tell that its not an entirely next gen engine.  i think the same would be the case for halo 3 if it were using an upgraded halo 2 engine.

either way, this news means nothing and if anything its good news.  if they are really farther along then previously thought then this would mean that they should have A LOT of time for refining, optimizing, and polishing the game before its fall/winter 07 release.  I highly doubt that MS is dumb enough to launch one of their biggest titles before the end of 07, i think they learned and will repeat with what they did right with marketing halo 2 to being the biggest 24 hours in entertainment history.

Pistols? WHY, its UNBEARABLY unrealistic for a pistol to be the most overpowered weapon in the game, and im the complete oppisite with MP, halo1 SP(with some of the better bits of H2) and H2 multiplayer all the way(essentially blood glutch was the same with different weaponry)

Who cares if it was 'unrealistic' for the pistol to be one of the most powerful weapons in the game.  What matters most to me is that it made it fun, and a hell of a lot more fun then the more 'realistic' halo2.

Halo2's tunnel vision, guns that take up half the screen MP......no thanks.  Bring back halo1's MP.

Oh we can accept all that is thrown at us, from a ring shaped doomesday device, to rediculous forerunner tecnology, and somehow a single person overthrowing an entire fleet of covenant armed forces, but a pistol that is good?  no way!  that just crosses the line!!!  The whole pistol thing is rediculous.  I want the Halo 1 pistol back, and by that I mean I want a weapon that gives you a chance to win in every possibility, Long distance and someone has a sniper?  the pistol gave you a chance, as it did with close range (although shotgun was preferable), and meduim range it was hands down the best.  I don't care if Bungie decides to make the battle rifle the new pistol just for the sake of keeping it "realistic", but give us a weapon that we can all fall back to that gives us a fighting chance.

I "hope" you're right.
I can't say much for how Bungie works on both the main campaign mode and multiplayer mode.
My memory is a blur at this moment but as for the rumor that Halo 2 was split and half and that H3's using a modified H2 engine, they come from Dean Takahashi's new book "The XBox 360 Uncloaked".
Actually the rumors have been floating around longer than that, way before the book came out but according to Takahashi, his inside sources confirm the rumors.
Why am I putting stock into what this cat is saying?
Some of his stuff has turned out to be true, M$ has even responded to some of his revelations and has ignored what he's revealed on what went on behind the scenes in the creation of H2.
But as I said, it's all just "rumors" so to each his own.

http://1up.com/do/fe...d=3150432&did=1
Yeah the pistol was just way too powerful.
Realism has little to do with it, it's more like weapon balance.
Own the pistol, and you own the match (with the exception of a good camping sniper).
A toned down scoped pistol? Maybe....
But a pistol as powerful as the one in Halo? Hell no....

I'm more concerned with the multiplayer maps than anything else.
Halo had better overall maps than the first batch of maps that came in H2.
Of coarse the new downloadable map pack maps are great, but I just hope Bungie finds a better more diverse range of maps for the release of H3....

i understand and agree.  there may be a lot of truth behind these rumors.  regardless of how good the engine is now, like i said, they could have used some assets from the halo 2 engine as their starting point which could be percieved as upgrading the halo 2 engine.  but they would have to rewritten so much of the engine to take advantage of the newest technologies and to work on the entirely different architecture of the 360 vs the xbox1 that in the end it would just equal a new engine.  its all a matter of perception, when most people say upgraded engine, i think splinter cell chaos theory (unreal 2.5 engine) or 99 nights (with upgraded KoF engine) but when people hint or talk about a new engine i think of massive reworking of code to adapt to next gen technology regardless of the starting point.  I'm sure there were some assets from the unreal 2 engine that was used in the beginning of creating the unreal 3 engine, same difference here IMO.  Regardless, its obvious from the trailer and interview that it is running on a next gen engine, which is the important part.

I didnt know that you got the info from the new 360 book.  I would believe what is written in there also (with the right source) as the first one on the xbox was a GREAT book IMO.  i take a huge interest in the game industry and all the workings that we dont see behind closed doors and that book was an excellent read.  I didnt know the 360 one was out already, where can i find it?  i have been waiting for that book since i found out about it months ago.

as far as the pistol goes, yes i agree that the pistol in part one was a wii bit too powerful.  however i do miss the scope from part one, so if they just make the pistol in halo 2 with a scope, then it would be golden.  regardless of anyone's opinion, people must realize that one of the key things to pay attention to when it comes to multiplayer is balance.  it doesnt matter if its racing, fighting, shooting, or strategy you need to have a good balance to truely be a fun and competitive multiplayer.  while the pistol was a great weapon in part one, some may argue that those who abused it lacked the true skill to be good with anything but the pistol and that speaks volumes IMO.

I will have no complaints as long as the field of view is like Halo.  Halo2 FOV is too small and probably changed to this to influence dual wielding which has lost its appeal by now.  It takes too long trying to find  where you are getting hit from by a BR when running accross Zanzibar.
