Halo 2.1 (3)
« Reply #15 on: May 13, 2006, 10:18:00 PM »

Simply put, Bungie designed the trailer so it would impact the development of the game as little as possible.  It seems that many forgot how Bungie poured everything they had into their E3 2004 demo, and had made very little progress on the actual game.

Everyone knows Halo 2 was a rushed product, and they are making sure not to make the same mistake again.  The Halo series has always pushed the limits of the console at that particular point in time, and I expect this one to be no different.

And if you're still skeptical, try zooming in on one of the 6400x3600 photos released of the trailer... and then tell me you aren't impressed  wink.gif

You nailed it on its head though.
Sequels will always be sequels.
They aren't original games anymore, that's why they call them sequels folks!

It boggles my mind that some people expect something new from a sequel to a previous game blink.gif

You want an original experience, get another freakin game! rolleyes.gif

I was not expecting anything 'original' with halo2.  I was just hoping for the same thing (same feel) as halo 1 with improved graphics and new story.  I did not get that.

Don't get me wrong i like halo 2, and think it is one of the best fps...............but i would rather play halo 1 mp and sp any day over halo 2.  If halo 1 ever became live compatible (xlink and xbconnect is not even playable with my 512 dsl connection) i would be playing it all the time, and not even look back at halo 2.  As of now i play CoD2 as my main fix for fps, and have not touched halo 2 mp in months.

Holy crap.  I'm astonished at this thread.  I'm a huge nitpicker when it comes to graphics and I have to say that the Halo3 trailer was the most graphically impressive real-time rendering I saw throughout all of E3.  The improvements over Halo2 were massive.

Now, the game is so far away I wonder if they are using the final engine or if this will be representative of the final product.  But honestly, I was impressed to say the least.

The halo3 announcement trailer was one of the most polished scenes I've ever seen in a game. If you think it doesnt look good or thought-out then I cant help you.

Similarly the Halo2 real-time cut-scenes were VERY impressive considering the pathetic hardware thats running it on the xbox1. Bungie can do wonders with what they're given.

Bungie does wonders with in engine cutscenes but there gameplay visuals leaves much to be desired

I disagree 100%.  The in-game cut-scenes and the in-game, playable graphics were exactly the same.....very good.

in a couple ways halo1 looked better then 2 simply because of the higher resolution textures vs halo2s low resolution textures with bumpmaps

I agree with you there, but overall halo2's graphics were better then halo1's.

I think Bungie will stick to this same formula for H3

For the love of Beelzebub, i hope not. laugh.gif

Just give me a human weapon equivalent to the pistol (no 3 round bursts), and increase the Field of Vision back the original, and i'll be happy.......oh ya, put the aiming reticule back to the center of the screen (i hate it 2/3rds of the way down in halo 2).

the trailer looked great and i honestly expect the game to look even better.  We will be playing some spectacular games next year, so to stand out by the end of 2007 (if you think its launching any earlier then fall/winter your foolin yourself) the game HAS TO to look phenominal.  just give me co-op over LAN/LIVE and continue the great story and i will be happy.

also all this talk of liking/hating halo 2 will never get settled.  many understand the reasoning behind a lot of bungie's desicions.  the story was fresh for a FPS, the weapons were really balanced, and the whole game shows that a lot of thought went into every move they made.  I think how much people allowed themselves to be hyped about the game ultimatly decided how much they loved/hated the game.  i was excited but never fooled myself into thinking that it would be the "next coming" in FPSers, just a good quality game.  however i was shocked about playing as the arbitor (not in a good way even though i got used to it) and i was heavily dissapointed about the lack of LAN/LIVE co-op.   overall though, the game is better looking, playing, and more well thought out then its prequal.

It's like someone drew a picture of a car and said "this is the car I want to build" and you come along and say "that car sucks... it's just a piece of paper"

Yeah, but a paper car would suck.

every one sems to be bitching about the looks of this game  compared to other "next gen" titles yet to come out.
but if you ask me  halo was never the prettiest game on xbox it ws well made  but the graphics were never jaw dropping in the last gen.

halo is good because its a solid well made game with a great story...not because it has the best graphics ever.

i honestly thought that trailer was prerendered cg not real time then i read up and found that it indeed  is the game engine running on a 360. then my jaw dropped

Wow.

At least a year of these H3 threads to read before the H3 hate threads start.

Come on people.  It's just one game.  It will never, I repeat, NEVER, live up to the hype.  Not ever.  No way, not a chance.

Think about al the people super upset about H2.  It was a great multiplayer game, with a nice sized SP campaign with varied levels.  I found it to be superb.

But, it did not live up to the hype.

What game could?

I am looking forward to some MP goodness on the 360 though biggrin.gif  that is severely lacking at this stage so far.
