Dvd==> Divx In Xbmp
« on: January 09, 2004, 08:33:00 AM »

is there any way to make a simple DVD ripper that runs on the xbox? i like being able to backup all my movies to the xbox but i want them in DIVX format or even mpg. 6.7 gigs is too much space to take up. make it rip to just 1 resolution and maybe an audio option and 3 levels of compression.

could it be done?   :uhh:   <

Technically it probably could be done in a way similar to Dr. Divx. But it takes serious CPU horsepower, doing it on the XBOX is not a good way. The CPU on your desktop is probably three times as powerful and has a lot more RAM. Just do it there and FTP it. Better yet burn it so that if your XBOX HDD dies, you won't lose your movie backup.  <

i know it would be slow, but i have some friends that aren't that great with computers that want to keep it simple.   it would also give the dream-x a reason for being  <

In the amount of time it would take your friends to encode 1 divx on a theoretical Xbox app, they could master the process of encoding on a PC, plus encode 4 or five movies ;)  <

What about the new Nero Digital?

I've been screwing around with it for a day or two, and it seems to have similar if not superior quality to DivX. It also has AAC audio and subtitles built into the movie file!

Best part...the encoding is literally 4x faster than DivX 5 or XviD.  I would assume that the much faster encoding would be amazingly beneficial on the Xbox :D

Yet another reason to support this in an new CVS build guys!  <
