Next Halo Game not Halo 3?

New rumors suggest the announcement of the next game in the Halo series is imminent, but if you are expecting a direct sequel to Halo 2, then you might be in for a surprise.

At yesterday's press event held in New York for the announcement of Viva Piñata, Shane Kim said “We're not here to talk about the mythical Halo 3, as I call it".

He continued: "We'll be talking about anything we're doing in the Halo universe - whether that's Halo 3 as I call it or anything else - at the right time. That time will be soon."

This last comment not only confirms the next game in the Halo series will be announced soon, probably at E3 2006, but also suggests that it might not be Halo 3 as everyone expects.

Either Bungie is working on more than one game set in the Halo universe, or the third game in the series won’t be a direct sequel to Halo 2.

According to the latest issue of Game Informer, Bungie's next project is called Forerunner and although the game belongs to the Halo series, it might actually be a prequel with a storyline set in the Halo universe, but focused on the origins of the Forerunners, their connection to humanity, and the Covenants.

An insider source supposedly told Game Informer that the upcoming Halo movie will be based on the Halo: The Fall of Reach book with the game complementing the movie, and therefore being a prequel as well.

Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure…we’ll soon learn of Bungie’s secret project for the Xbox 360.

Woaw TeamXbox really jumped ahead of themselves there.

That quote was so vague that it can mean anything.
I'm going to be laughing real hard when Bungie announces "Halo" the board game laugh.gif

: I haven't gotten my issue of GM yet, so I can't corroborate this.

: However, the fact that its not mentioned on their site (I ran a search for
: "Forerunner") and the fact that Bungie would announce the title
: and similar such noteworthy details before anyone else leads me to stamp
: this with a "BULLSHIT" tag.

Oh yeah, multiple persistent worlds, I remember confirming that when i confirmed all that truth to their rumor section. ROLLEYES x a trillion.

if a = b and b = c then a = f

yea,... this is total speculative bs.....

but, for the fun of talking about halo, here goes:
i DO NOT like the idea of a prequel.  bc like an above poster stated, halo2 left us with too much of a cliffhanger, and i like the idea of there only being 3 halo games (trilogies are just bitchin!).... besides, bungie'll be able to make something else bitchin after halo, ofcourse it'll never meet gamers expectations bc they'll be too busy comparing it to halo.   kinda like if we took quentin tarantino and put him in place of bungie, then took pulp fiction and put it in place of halo,.... whenever you go see a new quentin movie ppl always ask, "was it good?....yea yea, but, was it better than pulp fiction?".... and it's like, they are two completely different movies, shut up and watch the new movie for what it is, a NEW movie,.... friggin A! KILL BILL WAS AWESOME!....

i seemed to have digressed....  prequel wouldn't be cool,... and a game to go along with a movie would be cheesy, and thats my 2 cents
