Analyst: Halo 3 Back in the Frame?-- Posted by XanTium on March 15 14:29 EST
From next-gen.biz:

Quote

Hiroshi Kamide, analyst at KBC Securities in Tokyo said, "The Xbox 360 will now have had a year's head start. The danger is that they could target very big-hitting titles at the launch of the PS3 just to sabotage it. If they release Halo 3 - Microsoft's biggest selling game - timed to PS3, that will be quite damaging for Sony."

Its this sort of thing that could make or break 360. If it works, gamers will be dettered from buying PS3 because Halo 3 will be rockin the 360. On the other hand, maybe gamers dont see halo 3 worth it compared to PS3.

It brings up a good argument that only time will answer.

Xbox has halo 3, Playstation has metal gear solid 4.

Considering halo 2 just being a rehash and MGS2-4 evolving quite a bit with each game I honestly think one might sell slightly better then the other since alot of gamers won't want to see a 3rd version of the same exact game.

imo, i dont think its going to make any difference launching h3 at the time of ps3... if you think about it, everybody has their mind set on what they are buying when entering the store.... its not like they walk in see a new ps3, then see h3 running on the 360 and be like ok i change my mind... it may happen but the chances are very slim.

I don't think its going to make a difference if they release it the same day or not, because if they have the cash to buy the PS3 then chances are they have the extra 60 bucks to buy Halo 3.

i think the first two posters are mistaken, but hey we all have our opinions.

as for the whole stupid MSG vs. halo thing, that is pointless.  totally different genres and markets, also MGS3 didnt sell nearly as well as the previous entry while with halo, the fans still want more.  but again pointless.

as for the topic, that couldnt be further from the truth.  NOTHING MS does will sabotage the PS3 launch, nothing.  the revolution launching earlier then the ps3 will impact the ps3 launch more then any game MS can launch.  why?  because those who were going to get a ps3 will get one regardless, and if MS releases some killer games at launch (halo 3, shadowrun, GoW, Mass Effect, etc.) chances are anyone getting the ps3 at launch has already got a 360 at/near launch as well so they will get a ps3 and then any 360 games they desire.

sony tried the same thing with the sega and the dreamcast launch.  they released FFVIII the same day and date and it had NO impact on the DC sales at all.  peter moore knew before the DC launch while still with sega that the FFVIII would have little, if any at all, impact on the DC launch and it didnt.  also in an interview or atleast a quote not too long ago, peter moore said again that they are powerless to stop the ps3 launch stating that there is nothing they could do and that the ps3 will sell out regardless.

point being, all this analyst BS is just that BS.

Halo 2 while similar to the first was not a re-hash - and the appeal to most people was the multiplayer anyway and lets be honest MGS 2 and 3 while decent games didn't live up to the first, Halo 2 on the other hand bettered halo 1 in the opinion of most gamers I talk to.

I think Halo 3 along side all the games out this year and (probabaly) a lower price tag might cause some people sitting on the fence to go with the 360 next xmas.

It's way too early to even bother speculating about this. I'll think about it when either one is released first.

MSG4? Where'd that come from? That's like comparing the Legend of Zelda series with the Final Fantasy series. Both are excellent franchises, but they share few similarities. blink.gif

Halo 2's graphical engine used in the cut scenes is pretty phenomenal when compared to Halo. In fact, it still looks gorgeous when run on x360 in 720p, even when compared to many current x360 games. So, basically Halo 2 was much more advanced graphically than the first Halo. It's just too bad the Xbox didn't have the horse powers to run the whole game with same effects. If it did, it would've been far from being just a rehash.

With Halo 2's cut scenes Bungie has shown that only the hardware is slowing them down, they have all the gfx and coding talent to wow the world again. They've had two additional years to develope that engine further and they've probably had the unofficial PowerPC betakits much before they were delivered widely to developers.

While I confident that Halo 3 will rock, I honestly don't think that it has what it takes to rain on Sony's parade, PS3 will sell like hotcakes no matter what MS does. But I'm confident MS is aware of this.

MS' plan is that after PS3 launches they'll have a system that's considerably cheaper and runs a game that will look every bit as good as whatever PS3 has to offer - if not better. And for many in the buying audience it might be enough to tip the scale for x360's favour.

gaylo 3 will not divert me from buying anything and i sure as hell wont wait outside in the cold until midnight for this one.

i was completely let down with halo 2, and played it a total of maybe 3 hours online, the community was horrible and the game was just awful in my opinion.

funny how this story follows an announcement of the ps3 story on the news page though.

hope master creep chokes on a plasma grenade.

Halo 3 is just going to be another sequel.  Don't get me wrong - the game will be absolutely fantastic just like the previous versions.  I think M$ would really need a new game to take away from the PS3.  M$ needs to create another game that is better than any game out there.  In other words we need a game for the 360 that was as revolutionary as Halo.  I know the only reason I bought an xbox was to play Halo.  I cannot justify buying the 360 just for Halo 3.  M$ needs a game (brand new title - not a sequel) to be synonymous with the 360 as Halo is to the original xbox to really put Sony at a loss.

I think the speculation about Halo 3 being used to wreck Havoc on Sony's plans for Ps3 launch are crap.  Ps3 is an entire game console, and given the recent news.. one that will rock. There is alot to like about the ps3. Halo 3 may be launched in a timeline that is strategic to hurting ps3 sales. If so.. I think the thinking is flawed.

Halo 3 I have no doubt to outsurpass previous sales of Halo 2. Hands down. I still don't see that stopping people from going into the store and with 3-500 $ in hand and looking at the ps3 console, then at halo 3 and thinking.. I'm not buying ps3.

On the outside chance.. they were going in to buy a ps3 and see halo 3.. and buy the halo 3. I have no doubt they will reutn a week later whne they can afford the ps3.

Fans are already well aware there is only 2 real ways to play the halo franchise.. and that is with Xbox or PC.

Fans won't be dumping on Sony to grab Halo 3. Those that want Halo 3 will grab it. It should set new records.

Ps3 in November.. Halo 3 around that same time.. I'll be buying both.

I figure we'll see Halo in Summer '07 (I'm hoping for 64 player battlefield esq team warfare), and a us PS3 release in March after some other production surprises down the road.

Bring on the Revolution tongue.gif

It will be an exciting and interesting year to say the least :]

Considering that MGS4 is one of the major PS2 selling points for some people, they're easally comparable. Different genre's but both exclusive to their console.
