that's not what it's about. Try to remember around 2 months ago when xbox 360 launched. It was covered everywhere. it was in the news and everywhere. Think back about a 14 months ago when Halo2 launched. It was covered in the news and everywhere. Since 360 got all that coverage it has sold out everywhere. If the 360 shared it's launch with another blockbuster ANYTHING it's publicity would be stolen a little. Let's say Grand theft auto: fuck and suck edition came out that same day... it would have stolen the 360's thunder.
The halo series is not only one of the most popular series of games of this generation but of all time. People anxiously await each release and religiously play them. If you really think the ps3 would be unaffected by Halo3 simultaneously coming out you're sadly mistaken.
first of all the 360 would have sold out regardless of the coverage on the news. that is the main reason that the news kept an eye on the 360 because of the existing demand. true their coverage probably gave the 360 more hype but still it would have sold out regardless.
also as for GTA launching around the same time as the 360 stealing its thunder, again your wrong. if you remember right GTA: SA launched around the same time as halo2, did it steal any of halo 2's thunder? no, because the gamers who were going to buy halo 2 got halo2, those who wanted GTA got GTA, and those who wanted both got both.
yes i know that halo is one of the most popular franchises in gaming right now, but there are also people who wait anxiously for each release of GTA and play that religiously. the same could have been said in the 32-bit generation in regards to the Final fantasy series. many held FFVII as the best game out at the time, not just best RPG but best game ever, the game got rave and even perfect reviews (i remember gamefan reviews were 100++) everywhere. now a game with that much fanfare and loyal gamers did not effect the DC launch, so why would a halo game do any different.
you missed my point entirely that people who buy games at or around launch are 95% hardcore gamers and those kind of gamers will buy whatever they want when its available. almost everyone who will be getting a ps3 at or around launch will either be a sony fanboy or a serious gamer who owns all the systems and buys all the best games for each system. either way a halo release would not effect those who were going to get a ps3 anyways, all it would do is force those serious gamers to spend a little bit more on that day.
i love the halo franchise and would love for your comment to be true but the sad fact is that it would not make a difference. like i said, when all of the hardcore gamers got their system and the company can keep up with demand to actually allow systems to sit on the shelf, only then will games on your system make the biggest difference. it will be when someone walks into a store looking for a new system to get that they will look what games are available. if they see that the 360 has around 200 tiitles (yes including well known franchise like halo3) and the ps3 has around 50-75, then it would make the average consumer's desicion easier to make.
