Xmbc Keymap Is Messed Up
« on: January 07, 2004, 08:08:00 PM »

Kudos to the developers, it looks like XMBC will be a winner.  The main problem I'm having is the keymappings for the MS DVD remote are way out of whack compared into XBMP.  For example, in XMBC when playing music I want the DISPLAY button to turn on visualizations, and when in the visualization I'd like to be able to fast forward/rewind/toggle info like in XBMP.  Instead the MENU button turns on visualization for some reason, you'd think the MENU button would take you back to the main XBMC menu.  The back button doesn't work when browsing files, I have to actually select the ".." file at the top each time which gets annoying.  This would be all cool and dandy as long I could edit the keys myself, but the keymap.xml file does not contain these functions, they appear to be hardcoded in XBMC.

Does anyone have any insight on how to configure the remote to work like XBMP does?

Just look in the kepmap.xml for the keys that do what you want and change them, move <remote>back</remote> from where it is now to the parent directory command. Its pretty easy.

You cant fast forward or anything yet simply because it isnt in their yet, nothing todo with the remote.  <

Cool, I'll try out the back button tonight.   But what about the menu button turning on visualization?  I've look through every xml entry and none of them gives any hint to which button maps 'menu' to this  <

If anyone is interested below is what I changed my keymap to.  The back button always works now, the display button always toggles visualization, the menu button always takes you back to the main menu, and the number 2 button toggles between your playlist and files.  I picked '2' because you have to have a separate button unless you want to override the menu, back, info buttons which starts getting confusing, and 2 is in a convenient spot.  These really only affect the music browsing.  I like it so far, and it's similar to how XBMP worked.

Thank you. I was looking for this also. I prefer the way XBMP navigates so this is much appreciated.

Oh now that I look I may buggered that one up.   See this entry overrides the display button while watching a movie:

CODE

  Fullscreen Video specific actions
  2005

    Zoom/Stretch/Normal
    19
    start
    display

You could remap that to button 1 or something, and I think the global "Toggle between GUI and fullscreen" display button will then take effect.  I'll double check this myself tonight.  <

Followup: yes that fixed it.  I've updated the keymap above to reflect the change - display toggles out of the movie, button 1 now changes zoom/stretch, and 3 shows the codec.  <

Anybody know how to make buttons only work when the music visualization window is active?  All I need to know if the window code for the visualizer, I think.  <
