I guess I'll be the one to buck the trend here.  I really don't give a crap if they pirate it or not.  Personally, I'm not effected at all if somebody ganks the game and gets some achievements before the ligit copies are in stores.  Big whoop.  Odds are that most of them will buy a ligit copy when it releases anyways, most people just wanna play it early.  I don't see a problem with that myself.  Flame me if you will, but personally I don't give a flaming pile of dog crap if people steal the game.  It's not hurting me any, and I seriously doubt that the sales of GTAIV are gonna suffer the tiniest little bit because of the leak.

Oh my mistake, I forgot piracy is ok.

Bottom line, if you bought a legit copy early, you should have nothing to worry about. If I wanted it real bad, I'd have probably grabbed the PS3 version of it earlier today when I had the chance, but I'm still playing Bully, Uncharted, and CoD 4 (and not to mention Gears of War every night since it came out), so it's not like I'm in a rush for a new "fix" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Got it...Played it...it rules...

All except for the EXTREMELY TERRIBLE texture pop-ins that occur all over the place. I don't have a HDD so that may be the problem as a couple of my friends have it, the game that is, and they have the same problem.  I know if you have a HDD you can choose to do an optional install of some of the game data but without the HDD, driving full speed trying to evade the cops becomes almost impossible.  Maybe getting it early at GameStop ended us up with a bad batch...lol...Game still rules though...just drive slower...or get a f---ing HDD.

And I play on live, and I don't do that stupid hide achievements nonsense...screw M$ and R*, I bought it and I am going to play it, online and off.  If they have a problem with that then they should take that up with the cats at GS who sold it to us.

So... not only does MS know who has the game illegally, but now they have a long list of people with modded and bootleg playing machines. Very smart move. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

People that dumb deserve what they get. Tuesday you can go out and BUY the game like you're supposed to.

They'll be delt with. Retailers are charged a minimum $500 each copy they sell early. That's why MS must 'investigate' the matter first.

Only retailers who are "paid off"; most mom & pop shops are exempt (of course, mom & pop shops that carry current gen games are getting more and more scarce.

and another thing....
All you have to do is create a new gamer profile that doesn't connect to live and play the game through that account until Tuesday.....
I think that thwarts all plans on busting anyone playing this game early, don'tcha think?

uhhh no  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)  ever noticed even if youre not connected to live  you still get achievements the system records them even offline then when you hit live it uploads em doesnt matter which profile, im not saying they will ban for it but using differnt profile wouldnt work because when you connect to live it gets youre serial number of youre console so if they decided to ban you they just nail that serial number

maybe maybe not, I don't know what and how much data the 360 logs and sends back to MS...it might log dates too, then you're console would be flaged and eventually banned, thus, making it useless for xbl

figure out another way and you might be on to something

do you have the 360 or ps3 version?  i started playing it and i had no trouble avoiding the cops (they are EVERYWHERE!), and i have the 360 version.

this game is amazing...the cars, driving, pedestrians, are so realistic!  the city is incredibly detailed and being from nyc i recognize tons of landmarks and streets.  the only negative is that niko walks slow as hell, but maybe he gets faster as the game goes on?  i dont think so, so you pretty much have to run (tap a) all the time.

zae333, did you notice how slow niko walks?

I think even my neighbor's dog is interested in Gta4

And I dont think the ban its a good idea cuz I worked at Blockbuster and yes they rent the game before its

released.

Leaked games wont sell less just look at what happened to halo 3.

you're not the only one.. the game is an outdated piece of garbage.  GTA3 was good... everything after it has been just the same crap repackaged.

MS can't assume that everyone that is playing early is a pirate but I feel like they could put a temporary ban until you present proof of purchase.  However this would require Xbox support to be competent.  I was getting this on PS3 anyways but my roommates want to play it early however, my 360 is dead ATM(bad flash).

Hmmm... I recall proof of purchase still meant you were a thief in MS eyes.  [See un-returned console]

wow, some of you guys are player haters. Is this NOT the site where my nephew learned how to mod xboxes to play backups? Now you guys are making posts about the "Pirates" that are downloading the game.
Who cares if Rockstar is monitoring the game achievements by date? What the hell are they gonna do? They are making money off a game that glorifies crime. Is this not their intent? They've got pretty big balls if they were to ban someone for playing the game early. If I get my copy early, I'll play it. The rest of you fanboys can kiss my black ass.

The choice of using a mod for illegal means is your nephews choice. A style of a game has nothing to do with, and does not justify downloading an illegal copy. If someone stole something precious to you, I know you would do something about it, or let the law handle it. Your post is full of ignorance, or it is just intended to induce flames.

acully if the leaked copy did have such flags a legit copy would not so if someone got a real disk early that would not mean ban hammer only the poisiond pirate copy's would be effected. acully that would be a great idea to do on the next majer game release and kill off some real pirates not homebrew modders. pirate plus live = way more expensive then buying games new console every time the ban hammer hits. see m$ doesent need to stop piracy they just need to make it expensive.
