I dont see how most of you guys talkin about hows the graphics are so great....it looks just a little better than a xbox game...watching the high res trailer, it really didnt look all that great to me like how it was hyped to be...plus the game looks about something like the original gta...spice it up rockstar and make it like in china so we can play as a triad wannabe or in japan as a yakuzza...we need an asian main character!!!

Well if he's not an old man, then he's a crackhead.
Drug abuse can age you really fast.
However I doubt Rockstar would throw a wrench in the mix and allow for a crackhead to be the starring character in one of gaming's biggest franchises.

As for you cats defending that racist SOB, you're showing your true colors grr.gif

I'm not a cat dawgg.  I'm not defending him but you don't know he's racist.  To me it sounds like you might be though.  It's not important, mods can easily delete the posts that they think arn't needed or deem inappropriate.  I actually liked playing as CJ, it put a little twist on the game for me.

Game looks like the cinematics on Crackdown but not as cartoonish.  The gameplay could very well be just like the trailer.  At least I hope so.  Will be a long time to wait for me.  I also wonder how H3 will compete with GTA4.

No need to edit, you gave an OPINION.  Its ok.

What you prefer is not up to anyone else but yourself.  If black guys want to date white girls its preference, not racism.

Your cool  smile.gif

Anyways, lets get back to the game before this gets locked real quick.  smile.gif

This game is just the beginning of a new generation of series of GTAs to come and I assume the next one to come out in 2008 to be based in Tokyo.
It was nothing to do with the ps2, well just some imrovements were lacking during porting, better textures could have been used but the game engine was the actual limit, you see it's the same engine that was used to create GTA3 was used to develop GTA VC and SA, plus R* had said they would release a trilogy on the GTA3 engine.

i see what you mean ... i just think the ps2 slowed the progress of the game getting a "new" graphics engine in general, cause of the lack of ps2's power thats alot of the reason i think they kept the same graphics engine for as long as they did.... since the game was pretty much exclusive to the ps2... cause if they made graphics similar to pc's higher end graphics engines roughly 3 years ago it would have clearly been better than the ps2 best graphics, so then the ps2 would be screwed.... cause mark my words ill bet they will have pretty much the same graphics engine in GT4 for years to come now until the next batch of consoles come out.... this is one of the main reasons i think consoles pretty much dictate the graphics engine limits of the GTA games.

Few Points need to be made.

First off NYC has always been a city used in FICTIONAL MEDIA and given new names. This is common place when media creators want to PARRALLEL the real world but want to give you a sense of fantasy.

Batman it was called GOTHAM - as per movie not comic.
Superman it is called Metropolis - as per movie not comic.
Some movie I forget they called it AMSTERDAM (after its original name NEW AMSTERDAM back in the 1600's) though it was modern day NY.
Stephen Kings Dark Tower Series - He calles NYC - LUD - yes LUD
And lastly ROCKSTAR's LIBERTY CITY - IS NYC in alternite universe just like the other examples above.

SO Liberty city IS NYC - but called Libery City in the game.  - Whats the big deal here. IT IS LIBERTY CITY - IT IS NYC they are the same.  LIke calling a baseball a ball, white ball, white ball with red stichtes.

As I pointed out above - by giving NYC the name Liberty City they subconsciously withdraw the player from making Parrallels to the real world - no matter how many real landmarks they use.  By giving the City (the real Main charater) a Ficticious name - you surrender the player from the get go into realising that this game is FANTASY - Psycohologial BS to throw off people like Jack T. (well get back to him later)

Second - The game looks great so far - will atuall gameply match it? - my answer: Probibly.

Third - We no nothing of the scenero, YET - the narrator of the Trailer might be the main charater - as master chief is in the Halo Series - but we still got to play as other charaters in Halo 2... Perhaps there is more than one charater here as well.  Though from the trailer it looks like we are getting all 5 buroughs of NYC - Im sure the playable area will be huge as Manhattan Island really isn't that big and don't make for all that much fun in a Next gen game like this. SO by giving us Liberty city Island, Statan Island, QUeens, Brooklyn, Bronx (you know yankee stadium will be so Different and named something stupid - perhaps Camdumb Yards - bad joke sorry)

Fourth - I hope Rockstar puts JACK THOMPSON (make him the worth 10 achivement points for finding) in the game so I can go all Next Generation on his ass like i did in mortal Kombat (custom create a character).  You know Mr Crack Jack is going to be all over this game.  Jack - here are my words to you - Leave video games alone and we the games of the world will not make fun of you like the fat ugly kid in 5th grade during recess.  DO us all a favor and leave our world alone and we will leave you alone.  If you continue to be a doush bag - I hope rockstar gets you debarred and sues your a$$ faster than than sonic can run from begining to end of a level. <-- Ghey but effective

Lastly - to the person who said - do you think they will put the TOQWER IN THE GAME?  You did not offend me a true NYer.  I wish they would - Remember it's rockstarts Fantasy City - they can put what ever they want into it.  But if you look at the end of the trailer where you see from brooklyn into manhattan, with the brooklyn bridge - you should see the towers in the background if they were going to put them in there.  TO be honest the Skyline is not very accurate from that vantage point as there is a old white tower that should be there behind the bridge - 1 bloock from where the towers used to be and it is not - so it looks like NO TOWERS and not a very accurate skyline.

Later all,

Well - Everyone can banter on that this is a great trailer - but the reality is far from it!!

This trailer is an awful one for debuting a next gen franchise like this. We see more shots of the damn skies and the tops of buildings than anything else!! I'm not buying into this cos there's buildings in it!! Where's the story, where's detailed shots of characters - why do we need to see that the lighting changes for night to day - we've seen that already in other games!!

The one shot of a crowd scene and it's sped up... and when we finally get to the end and see our hero character, I jsut couldn't take my eye off the nasty mesh wire fence on each side of the bridge - clearly old school flat/planar map with an alpha channel texture - not even any bump mapping! - then when I did get around to looking at the character - I thought hmm next gen - I dont think so - not very realistic at all.

Hell - show me more - I aint convinced!

I'm willing to bet you don't know what foreplay is...  The trailer was just meant to get people drooling. They are building up anticipation about the game... don't want reveal it all to early. To be honest, they really don't need to show us anything. Just the franchise name alone is enough to sell millions of copies on day one. If I remember correctly for GTA:SA, at about this time before the release, they had only given us THREE screen shots.  The game will look better as time goes on.  (Hopefully)      smile.gif

It depends, you want the "stripped" version (PS3) or the "full" version (360)?

Some NYC landmarks in the trailer:

Cyclone roller coaster @ Coney Island
Governor's Island ferry terminal
Trinity Church (not sure)
Statue of Liberty
Empire State Buiilding
Chrysler Building
Flatiron Building
Pan Am/Met Life Building
Times Square/theater district
Manhattan Bridge
Roosevelt Island Tram (shouldn't be next to Manhattan Bridge though)
Brooklyn Bridge

I couldn't place the glass dome.  Several of the shots are taken from Brooklyn which would fit in well with the Russian theme.

I think this definately should get labeled a "teaser"
I am very excited for this game as are others.  I can't wait to see actual gameplay.

I liked the trailer. It showed me what i wanted to see about the game.

I'll bring up San Andreas again and the whole "black character" talk. I didn't care that CJ was black. What i didn't like was playing though the game as a thug. The whole concept of being in a gang, and killing other gang members somehow didn't sit right with me. I don't know why. I loved the story in Vice City. It was cool to play a Tony Montana type character.

I loved GTA III and Vice City. I never finished San Andreas because of the reason mentioned above. Hopefully GTA IV will be great.
