Really it's not all that difficult to get into a ranked match with your friends.

Voice chat them and determine who is going to host then pick the game type and number of rounds. Do a search for that exact game type and number of rounds (same number for max and min).. and then pick your friend's name out of the list. If you do it quick enough the room wont fill up and most people would be OK with switching sides to be on a specific team.

Really it's not all that hard it took me about 5 seconds to find my friend's room so our squad could play together ranked.

If you're planning on playing for a while set the number of rounds high because you'll have to do it every time the game ends.

The other team can hear you if you are close enough to them.

I figured that out last night...and now my only complaints are:
After a match in victory only the people who are alive can hear each other...so after an intense match there is no celebrating because half your team is usually deceased...

And while you can set the # of rounds higher it does not replace the ability to switch stages and play multiple matches without jumping through hoops...it is because i love the game that I hate the multiplayer...

understandable...

I'm not saying the multiplayer options don't suck (because they do) just sharing some ways to get around some of the shortcomings.

I think I might write a guide for developers on the multiplayer options that should ALWAYS be available in a shooter... apparently they need it.

In Halo 2 you can, but in Gears of War you can't. Might've mixed it up there.

I totally agree It shouldn't take you ten minutes to start a game that only takes ten minutes or so to play.  and then after your done there's no stats post game screen thats like a lobby or anything.  And it sucks if you are talking to someone, you just get cut off and have to start the painful process all over again.   Tried to host a match and it it took no less than 5 minutes for 1 person to show up.  WTF?? gameplay itself is phenomenal if you manage to get through the mad.gif  bullshit of getting a game started.

i always host my matches and it does take a little while to get someone in but after you get like 3 people in, they start pouring in

here's a hint... if you have a room of 2 or 3 then tell everyone to play pistols only until more come in... (this of course is for player matches)... I had tons of fun doing this the other night... actually made my aim get better throughout the night... plus I used the malee more and more... but it tears people a new one when you kill them with a pistol and they were trying to chainsaw ya....  biggrin.gif

until they fix the ranked games so you can join as a team... I'll stick to player matches... seems people have a better attitude in player matches...

I find a lot of people quit out of ranked matches if they start losing...which to me is a little weird because you don't get any ranking points that you earned unless you stay through the end of the match, and you can't lose points unless you repeatedly kill yourself...or get splattered by that *(#@*$(# train.   biggrin.gif

I got it yesterday.  Played a little in the campaign.  Then I went to multiplayer, cause that's what I prefer for most games.

My biggest bitch is server problems!  Christ allmighty, I could get into 1 of 10 games.  The other 9 I would lose connection to the server.  Not good.

So far, the rumors that this will be a Halo Killer aren't very likely, with Halo 2's seamless matchmaking.

It is so good-looking, and the campaign has already been super, it's a shame that they seem to have left the multiplayer aspect behind a touch.  Hopefully it will get resolved soon.

I think you lose points too if you quit out early. What I do is when someone quits out, I just give them bad feedback to avoid them.

I noticed too that when i'm playing against other people, some will start arguing and start name calling with racism and brag like "Look at the leaderboards dude, i'm #6" They take the game seriously like it's their life. I mean, come on, it's just a game for crying out loud!

Player matches are better. More mature players there. Seem to have more fun too. Ranked matches to me are only useful if you're trying to get the achievements.
