germany, the rest of the world forgives you for wwii!! we've all moved on!! sure, hitler was a real douche, but that doesnt mean every german baby born within the last 50 years is a hate monger, psychosematic, gun toting crazy violent person.

germany is like the exact opposite of america. where as america couldn't possibly stand to have naked ladies in games, germany will not stand for any sort of extreme fictional violence in video games.

I love germany, it's such a great country, but they need to buck up a bit and maturely assess their censorship.

Hopefully it will be a region free title and those in Germany with the desire to get it will be able to do so without too much hassle. However, this comment...

"Germans still wishing to play Gears of War will likely have to import it from Austria, or the UK." seems to suggest otherwise.

Germany are stupidly strict about this crap, Cannibal Corpse(band) aren't allowed to play certain albums live or they get hauled off to jail :|

That is really interesting about the German ratings board and their strictness.  And from MS there was no way to make the version compatible with both the ratings board and XBL?  How bad overall would it be to have to "ask the cashier" for the game anyways?  Or maybe the reduced sales will undermine the cost of release in that country.

The irony is that this whole thing will really piss off some Germans and cause them to participate in the exact violence that the ratings board is trying to prevent exposure to...

It seems that Germany is a bit worse than the US in this respect.  Over in the US, some of the politicians are claiming that video games like GTA3 are too violent and are corrupting children, despite the fact that the violent games have been clearly rated as being inappropriate for children for the past 12 years by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.  This, while movies such as 'The Hostel' and 'The Devils Rejects' can still be easily purchased in many stores, along with music CDs about banging hos and shooting cops over your illegal drugs.

If somebody like Hillary Clinton ever makes a successful run for presidency, Germany may become an example of what to aspire to.  At least Jack Thompson doesn't have a chance of getting in at the moment.

I was just thinking...
The game will not officially be released in Germany, but that also means it should not be on any censorship list. (censorship listed > no advertisement etc.)
Maybe they can actually advertise the game this way and increase demand. People who want the game will probably get it anyhow. (Though this actually does increase piracy)

That is one thing I dont understand about Germany.  They think it is simply fine to have naked women on like every single channel and real hardcore porno and stuff, but as soon as a gory game comes there way, they are like OOOOHHHHH NNOOOO We cant have that..  :| A tad confusing if you ask me.
