Why do people watch these trailers of "cut scenes" and assume they are in game

Have we not learned from COD2, BF2 MC, GRAW and others that these are "cut scenes" and not in game footage

There are a few different things, and I think it's important to be CLEAR about what we're talking about

1: Pre-rendered Cut-Scenes - This means that the thing you're watching was created by a graphic designer and does not represent the actual game in any way shape or form. These are created when development starts to get a broad view of where they'd like the project to go. Alternatively these are created as "video breaks" for the actual game. Similar to intro videos or ending videos. It's an artists interpretation of the game.

2: Real-Time Cut-Scenes - This means that the thing you're watching was created with the actual game graphics. While the user doesn't have control over the action, and their typically isn't a HUD or playable view of what's going on, the things you see are the actual game graphics, simply scripted but still being rendered in real time.

3: In Game Footage - This means that the thing you're watching was the game being played by an actual person controlling the action.

What we're saying here is that what we saw in GoW was #2.... COD3 was #1 As was the early demos of GRAW

are we clear?

yeah... anyone who doesn't think the console can do that... go download the Lost Planet demo...

After playing Lost planet I have no doubts we could see Killzone 2 graphics on the 360... simply stunning.

watch the beginning of the MS conference, that falls under #3, being played and it looks stunning! They didnt try to mask anything, it even had a few stutters, something we deal with every day in REAL games.

everything GoW related is either ingame being played out live, or using the games engine to run a scripted cut scene.

anyone who thinks any GoW footage is CGI is truly confused, especially those who say they do it for a living and swear its all cgi, yeah you know who you are, dont feed people anymore BS ok?

Thanks much! beerchug.gif

just saw the gaming montage and I must say the 360 has the best looking titles at e3.........ps3 has some good ones though but they dont like all that impressive compared to the 360 titles. Maybe if we saw them last year i would be more impressed.

you obviously dont understand the discussion here.  were not saying that its in-game (meaning gameplay), with no hud its obvious.  were debating if its in real time or not, we all know its a cut-scene but the beauty of it would be less impressive IF it was rendered and not real-time which many believe it to be.

regardless, even though the trailer on the marketplace was impressive the demo that was played by CliffyB was definatly a show-stopper.  if that is how intense the first level is then i cant wait to see the rest of the game.  also unlike previous demos, this one takes place at day time so you can see all of the glorious details.  still IMHO, this is the most impressive next gen so far, and im sure plenty of people will take for granted and not realize how much is going on in the screen just in this unfinished demo.  a couple of helicopters shooting down, enemies running all around, the particle effects are to die for, and the whole scene just screamed "im next gen and im real!".  kudos to our buddy Clliffy for showing yet again how much of a beast the 360 is.

You guys are exaggerating my point.  I'm just saying the last few scenes of the trailer look a little too polished for the 360. Notice how the jaggies mysteriously dissapear during a few sleect scenes? I could be right or I could be wrong.  Either way, from the beggining I've been saying the game looks absolutely amazing, and the gameplay videos we've seen recently only further proves that.  I'm not trying to discredit the game by anymeans, but it seems everyone is trying to discredit my opinion.  I simply stated that my positive opinion of the game was slightly hurt by the scripted animation and what I believed to be a bit of pre-rendering or post-processing at the end that I felt was produced on something other than X360 hardware.  For such a simple opinion, I'm astonished at how many panties got bunched.  I haven't seen this much speculation-based retaliation since the naysaying that surrounded the Halo2 trailer.

Bottom line is that no-one in this thread actually knows the answer.  Just because my opinion differs from your's doesn't make it BS, especially if you can't prove it to be false.

You ARE jokeing right huh.gif i think you need to watch killzone again...................its like compareing first gen ps1 to first gen xbox360

Not to mention all the media I have seen for KZ 2 is pre-rendered CG junk... Sony can't show anything that is rendered real time.. sad. NOTE: I have seen some, not impressed..

Perhaps you should have been more clear in your first statement... I took it (as well as many others it seems) that you thought the entire trailer was pre-rendered. I completely agree with you that some scenes probably recieved some post production... most trailers get that.

I think you need to watch the killzone trailer and play Lost Planet on the same display. I'm not saying lost planet is as-good-as the killzone trailer but it's certainly the best graphics to have been shown on the 360 yet (if you don't think so you need to get your screen adjusted... or upgraded) and it shows that THAT level of fidelity is definitly achievable on the 360

Also, davemire, I never said the KZ2 trailer was real, I was simply using it's pre-rendered beauty as a measuring block.

Maybe Lost Planet isn't an appropriate comparison, but I can see the point Twisted's trying to get across.
The in game graphics of Gears of War easily rival the Killzone 2 CG video of last year's E3.
After all, Cliffy B said he was aiming to achieve KZ2 graphics in game for GOW....

In my humble opinion, the ingame graphics of Crysis are far superior over the KZ2 video clip.

i think you have even lost it

sorry but killzone trailer, i suggest you find it in HD and watch it over and over and pay attention to the detail on every little thing, sorry but GOW didnt even shake a stick at it, and you know why? its not achieveable plain and simple
