mind as well start it, and let me mention that In Cliffys latest Blog update, he says he's working on an area where Marcus and Dom are fighting their way thru a map filled with rain.

Hopefully we will see some weather events take place in a daytime map for X05  beerchug.gif

Now tell me that wouldn't kick ass  laugh.gif

More direct feed IGN goodness. This time it is the much-anticipated Gears Of War. This direct feed video should pretty much end all arguments about which is better MGS4 or GoW. Or maybe it will just make more. Who knows.

QUOTE
October 4, 2005 - Epic Games showed up to MS's X05 event with bravado and confidence, personified by Game Designer Cliff Bleszinski, who led a packed house of attendees wowed by a simple two-minute demo.

Focusing on Gears of War's horror instead of its action, Bleszinski showed off a level in which a squad of futuristic marines slowly can carefully make their way down a wide pathway. The night-time level shows off pouring rain, which thickened the sky and made the search for "aliens" creepy and suspenseful.

The level starts with in-game cutscenes and is narrated by a young girl who queries whether you believe in dreams, or whether there really are aliens. The following scenes show that perhaps even nightmares come true, with human-esque alien creatures gnawing on carcasses in a room filled with slain human bodies. Blood covers the walls and pools across the floor, and the level of detail in the gibs is just plain nasty. (Nasty in a good way, but still nasty.)

The level was filled with high-res detail. The pouring rain filled in the nooks and crannies of trees, streaming down the dark brown bark with natural motion. The rain poured down on the ground, pooling and parting into streams and rivulets. The characters themselves didn't appear to be hit by the rain or affected by it, but the level was very dark, so it's hard to know exactly (we couldn't see it). The lighting was shown off by the use of a single flashlight which spotlighted suspicious creatures crawling and scurrying around the savaged industrial landscape and amongst rooftops and bridges.

After the cutscene ends, the squad of soldiers, taking cover behind a stone structure, slowly stand and carefully head down a wide, dark path in the rain. They walk with guns cocked and prepared to shoot, and every so often a noise diverts their attention, and the leader throws a flashlight on the noisy area. When he does, the realtime lighting shows off beautifully, highlighting details and sharp edges. Over the course of the short walk, the soldiers spot several disturbances, each one ending in the scurrying sight of creatures disappearing in the darkness. The whole scene clearly foreshadows what's coming, and several other instances prompt the squad leader to shoot at moving barrels. Before we reach the end of the path, CliffyB cuts the demo and explains we can see more tomorrow.

gameplay footage at xboxyde

http://www.xboxyde.c...ws_2090_en.html

wait till about 56 seconds in and they play some of the night map during a tstorm.

it was recorded really dark and the sound is out of sync at times. I had to lighten it up a lot with wmp but it looked all washed out.

itll be a few days b4 we get a good version.

Tomorrow Epic is showing the other 3 or 4 minutes of the vid, they stopped it where they did on purpose.

when the lightning lights up the surroundings...wow
