so yeah, my best buy hasn't put it on the shelf yet.. to tide over my eagerness i decided to pick up my wireless steering wheel. after i got it, i realized that i don't have a desk or anything in my room to mount it to.. well crap.. now what?

well.. this is what..

this is what some scrap wood, some reclaimed casters, and an old car seat will get ya in a couple hours time.. laugh.gif

next i figure i'll whip up a sweet cupholder for it, maybe a mini-windshield, and then some paint/graphics.

I like very much  smile.gif

I've been to best buy tonight and seen the cases on the shelves. While looking at other games, I saw it and I thought "It's out already!?"

But then I saw that plastic price thingy that said "Forza Motorsport 2 Presell"    sad.gif

Nice setup, gonna be awesome.

On a side note, you should probably either extend the back a little more, weight to the front or something to prevent you from falling backward.

I was just looking at it thinking the exact samething,

if you dont modify it alittle its going to be a rollover simulator as well

one word: friggin badass!

but yeah, look into the counter weight thing.

i just got the wheel tonight as well (in preparation), and am finding the 'lap' playing isn't working too well,... maybe i just suck too much at the wheel still.

quick little update for those interested..

first off, i decided to redo the way that the wheel mounts.. instead of relying on the crappy clamp i removed the lap-base and screwed the thing straight to the wooden platform. (after hitting the base with some satin black paint)

IPB Image

pretty easy, after removing the lap piece, i used it as a template to drill spots for the mounting screws

IPB Image

next i built my little "trunk" area, which will hold all my other xbox controllers / accessories.. pretty roomy storage from what used to be dead space

IPB Image

it's got a "hood" too, but it's only on at the moment for a test-fit.. i still need to do some reshaping with my orbital sander before i shoot some paint on it

IPB Image

as you may have noticed from that pic, i'm gonna go with a white and black paint scheme on it.. i like the contrast, as well as how it matches the wheel. here's what the top looks like with the wheel attached

IPB Image

here's a bit of cable management underneath, as well as a shot of the bling bling.. being an installer, i have tons of this retarded kinda shit just laying around. way i figure it, why not pimp the forza rig? i've got a 12v inverter that i'm putting in the box under the seat to power it..

IPB Image

and here's what she looks like lit up

IPB Image

all in all, a pretty productive couple hours into the rig today.. it's starting to really shape up nicely..

You should build a roll cage for it.

hooray for updates!

the white carpet is actually a $10 bath mat from target.. just happened to be the perfect size for the floor board.. little spray adhesive, and my feet get to enjoy the same warm fuzzy feeling that they do when i get out of the shower.. haha

the seat cover was snagged from autozone.. little too ricey to put in an actual car, but for this it's perfect.. i think the black/white/grey matches the cockpit/wheel perfectly! and for only $18 i couldn't go wrong

the "underbody" is from an old led underbody display we used to have at best buy.. when they dropped the product, we gutted the display.. it's been sitting in a box for a couple years now, so i figured now would be a good time to put it to some use.

figure right now she's about 90% complete.. my still-left-to-do list is..

1. finish hood and get it painted and mounted
2. cut down a piece of mesh i have to fill the area under the hood
3. come up with a sweet design for the big black sides.. might recreate the forza 2 logo. if i use that, i'll have "forza motorsports" done on the sides of the seat box to match

other than that stuff, i'm pretty damn pleased with the results.. i did it out of sheer boredom, but it has evolved into a pretty cool project that gets a lot of ooh's and ahh's when i've got people over.

now if you'll excuse me, i've got some serious racing to do
