Say It Isnt So
« on: January 13, 2006, 07:20:00 AM »

i came across this and was hoping if anyone here could transelate or confirm what the article means.  i know it may sound selfish but i liked itigaki supporting 360 exclusively but it seems like things may change.  i was afraid of something like this happening because of his love for powerful consoles but this article seems to go against every comment he has made before in regards to the ps3.  in the end it really would make little difference as long as he still gave us all the games promised to us but its fun to spaz sometimes  tongue.gif

again if anyone can elaberate on this article that would be great thanks.

Now, we are not sure if this is a misprint or speculation, but according to some printed Tecmo PR from Japan, Dead Or Alive is on the way to the Playstation 3. You can see the image for yourself if you click on the news title. Has Itagaki decided to go both ways? You decide.

He will develop for the most powerfull console and the most powerfull console only.

So I guess we may not get anymore team ninja games.

I think thats just another way for them (that magazine) to kill the 360 sales by saying its coming to the PS3, so anybody thinking of getting the 360 to play DOA4 today can control their urge and wait for the PS3 version (which they would assume be alot better too - which it wont).

its been a while since i have heard such an idiotic comment.  the man announced atleast 5 360 games and does nothing but talk bad about the ps3 and now your saying that we wont get anymore team ninja games?  nothing has changed with the power of the systems since his last negative comments towards the ps3 and if the common response from developers is any indication, power isnt a factor with the two systems as in real world gaming they are pretty even.

what i was actually hoping for is someone here who can read japanese to confirm what the article says exactly or if the site i got it from was just jumping to conclusions.  IF this turn out to be true i can see this being the only port being done to cash in on the series, much like DoA: hardcore on the ps2, one game and not much else.

So why criticise them because they might assume it to be better but you can somehow assume that it wont be better.

your correct in that comment but i think its safe to say that regardless of what system is better (which is a mute point right now) i dont think there is much more you can do to the look of the game with the art direction that itigaki uses.  other then maybe better hair and cloth physics there really isnt much more to improve on, because we already know he stated that although possible it would take too long for the team to include finer strands of hair which is really the most common complaint graphically.

Speculation or not... I think Itagaki will bring DOA to PS3.  He did it on PS2 with DOA2: Hardcore; he's certainly capable of doing it for PS3.  DOA4: Hardcore... unsure.gif

Besides, who cares if he brings it to PS3.  It's probably not going to be "better" in all respects.  It will probably have better hair and water effects (the biggest complaint of most people), but it will not have the online aspect as well implemented.  And it probably won't be in HD.

Itagaki certainly must bow to the whims of stock holders and those board members would be flatout retarded to ignore the HUGE financial impact a PS3 version of DOA would have.  I say let 'em have it, just as long as we get Ninja Gaiden 2 soon...  happy.gif

Yea, that's the thing...

What if Itagaki decide to develop Ninja Gaiden 2 only on the most powerfull console, (like he did with part 1), then 360 wouldn't get Ninja Gaiden 2.

Itagaki is in no ones pocket, he goes with the most powerfull console and only the most powerfull console period.  That's a fact.

He has never developed a game for a lesser system and I don't think he'll start with Ninja Gaiden 2.

That would be idiotic.
Ahhh, but you're forgetting one thing.  PS3 is a bitch to program on.  Itagaki has spent the last 5 years programming in a DirectX environment and, although he loves a challenge, I would consider his "most powerful console" preference dependent on flexibility.  That leaves the 360 in first place (under assumption; I've not programmed on either SDK).  Plus, if this supposed $20M buy in development cost crap is true... they must consider whether the 3 years of development is worthwhile.  I would say it is, but I'm not a businessman.. wink.gif

Well DOA4 does not carry an "Xbox Only" exclusivity badge...

Then again neither did DOA3

Despite the fact that the PS3 will have a larger fanbase behind it... it's also a more saturated market for fighters... DOA would have to compete against Tekken and Virtua Fighter, where it really doesn't have much or anything for compeititon on the Xbox... Not to mention DOA in general (more-so with DOA4) is geared more towards fans of the series then casual gamers. With that in mind... fans of the series are more likely to own MS hardware...

I think if it does hit PS3 at all, it will only be in Japan.

Both DOA1 and DOA2 were released cross platform in japan on the Saturn and PS1, then on the DC and PS2 respectivly...

DOA2 hardcore came after the initial release of DOA2 on the PS2 in japan... DC also go an updated version of DOA2, "DOA2 Limited Edition" that was essentially the same thing as hardcore, it never hit US shores because of the dying DC market here.

DOA3 was the first game in the Series to NOT get released multiplatform. and MS bought exclusivity of DOAX, and DOA2U, and Ninja Gaiden Black (hence the "Only for Xbox" logo on the cases")

you keep forgetting a couple of important notes.  one is while many considered it to be an inferior console, itigaki considers DoA1 on the "weaker" saturn to be the superior version even though one was developed for the ps1.

also he already confirmed atleast 5 titles for the 360 and has given a clue slip that ninja gaiden 2 will be on the 360 as well.  i think if DoA makes it to the ps3 it wouldnt be big of a factor as every previous generation of playstation has recieved a version of the series.

All this talk about the 360 not getting any more is rediculuous. He has a good relationship with MS and isnt going to stop dead in his tracks.

Yes the ps3 may get them as well but he *Confirmed* the 360 getting atleast 5 in its lifetime, and we all know what those 5 are. So while the ps3 might get some of those, we are still getting 4 more titles.

Thats all that matters at the end of the day isnt it?. And the ps3 versions surely wont have the online features implemented in the same way, so the 360 versions already have an edge IMO.

Tecmo would be silly NOT to have some of Team Ninjas games hit the ps3, thats like Capcom not making RE 4 for xbox. Im still shocked they didnt have anything from DOA 3 on go to ps2, even though those versions would be watered down heavily.

QUOTE

A recent PR statement by Tecmo of Japan stating that two Dead or Alive games are coming to PS3 has led to huge discussion across various internet boards. In a recent PR statement coming from the latest Famitsu the line, "...the next two DoA titles for PS3" appears. Reading this, fans everywhere were shocked. How could a series that's stuck with MS for so long suddenly jump to the Sony system with not just one, but two DoA games? Well, the answer to that is in the quote itself.

The PR statement reads as follows: "Regarding our impressions of the next generation systems, we don't really have enough information about the PS3 or Revolution at the moment. On the other hand, we think Xbox 360's online system will really heat up matches so we've scheduled the next two DoA titles for PS3".

As anyone can see from the above quote, the truth is easy to find. Someone must have made a typo and accidentally typed in PS3 when they meant to type Xbox 360. Well, unless somehow the PS3 runs Xbox Live...but we don't see that happening.

Big deal if it does make it to Sony's side.  DOA isn't exactly selling systems in Japan.   sleep.gif
