Doa4 Review

Well, with the release of Dead Or Alive 4 finally imminent, we thought we would let u in on IGN's official review of the game. They give the fighter a 9.0, a respectable score for the Xbox360 title considering Famitsu gave the game a 37/40. Remember, this game should be in your hands by tomorrow afternoon at the lateest.

Here's a repeat of what I been saying all this time.

QUOTE
The characters, on the other hand, are a mixed bag. It's not that they aren't good looking. They are. They're intricately detailed and imagined with flourish and style. Kasumi, Leifang, and Ayane, for instance, show off noticeably flowing silky hair. All the characters display special moves and superbly motion-captured animations that are worth watching repeatedly. When the characters grapple each other you won't see the clipping or body melding seen so often in wrestling games. These characters grab each other with precision and eye-catching animations. Characters such as Ryu Hayabusa, Jann Lee and Bayman all show increased musculature and heightened emotional intensity. Bungie's Spartan-458 looks excellent too, fully suited in specialized Mjolnir armor.

But none of the characters have made a significant graphic jump in design above their predecessors. The women still look like satin dolls and the guys like burly thugs. It's not a big gripe, but one that's worth discussing a little given the advances in current videogame facial expressions and potential emotional output. The character design is more of an amplification of the previous roster's clean looks than a major shift or advancement. And when compared to the spiffy backgrounds, they stand in even greater contrast, looking simple and unrealistic. Perhaps that's just a peeve of my own, because the game overall really does look great.

yeah i see what the reviewer is saying but it should have been mentioned in the review that its the art direction that they want and that the characters are intended to look that way.

one thing that i have said all along is that one of the biggest factors of a graphical presentation in the next gen is the art direction.  with the advanced technology in the next gen systems its less about hardware restraints and more about art direction with how the developers make the final product look.

I usually only pay attention to what ign has to say when it comes to reviews, previews and release dates etc, and I believe that 9.0 is fair. DOA4 is going to be visually only a bit better than what we have already seen on first gen xbox, it is only the online and offline gameplay additions that makes this the best DOA yet.

DOA4 will simply be the best fighter ever made considering DOA3 is to this date renowned as the best fighter ever made so DOA4 will simply take its place but someone mentioned street fighter? OMG, live in the NOW people, that game was garbage when it was state of the art graphics in its own time. 2D fighters having a place in the world of DOA ? much less XBOX 360 ? LMAO thats a good one.

well the game will be a lot more then just "visually only a bit better".

and you comparing street fighter to ANY 3D fighter is like comparing apples to oranges.  it shouldnt be done and even though i love the DoA series i also love the street fighter series.  and for it being the best fighter ever, thats debatable because i also love the VF series which IMO is as good as the DoA series if not a bit better.

As long as the ladies are still able to sit on my face, it's all good...

now quit bickering about 2d and 3d and relish the sites of all the melons.

i personally like DOA2:ultimate better then DOA3, also, 2d fighters are not a thing of the past, the old street figher games are amazing, and if your saying 2d fighters suck and don't have any place in modern gaming, you must have overlooked the guilty gear series.

You gotta be fsckin kidding.  or completely stupid, take your choice.
DOA may be the best 3d fighter on xbox, but thats not saying much.  Its very near the bottom of the list of all 3d fighters.
Virtua Fighter 4 is MILES beyond doa.  even tekken is better than doa.  The only mainstream 3d fighter that is WORSE than DOA is soul calibur.

Its not a bad game, and ill probably pick up doa4 if/when i get an xbox2.

But to dismiss SF and 2d games is purely ignorant.  SF3:third strike is one of the all-time best fighting games.
2D fighters are still going strong, with recent releases of King of Fighters neowave on ps2, King of Fighters XI, Samurai Spirits tenka, and Neo-Geo battle colosseum in the arcade, all with ps2 ports coming; Guilty gear, SF alpha3 on psp, melty blood, rumble fish2, etc.  (OK, those last 2 suck ass, but it shows that the genre is very much alive and well).

To this day, i would much rather play Samurai Spirits 2 or 5:special (though im liking Tenka as well) over any other fighter, 2d or 3d, with the exception of Virtua Fighter 4:evo (or final tuned in the arcade).

Off topic but this pic looks crazy. It says PS3 so I am guessing this is all pre rendered right?
