Something I Need To Know About Cod2

In my opinion, physics are the most ingenuitive thing to happen to first person shooters since well, the transformation from 2d to 3d.  Anyways, i know cod2 has all these fantastic smoke effects, lighting snow falling on coats, and whatnot, all of these are a great example of physics in motion but theres one thign i absolute could not stand about the pc demo and if xbox 360 is the same, then i wont even bother playing cod2 at all.

Ragdoll physics!!!!!!!, i couldn't beleive how badly this game needs it, i throw a grenade and 2 germans to the exact same flip in the air, that looks lame, and the bodies dont stack upon eachother.  your guaranteed that you'll see the same death animations throughout the entire game, which completely takes away from the immersion of the game if u ask me.

 Day of defeat source, i know is full of bugs, but the one thing it does dam good is implementing amazing physics, so each time you shoot someone they react differently to where they were shot, how fast they were running, where their standing, it creates very dynamic and interesting gameplay.  u could have a dead soldier fall out a window but his foot gets caught on a dresser insid,e and he'll just dangle realistically out the window.  This adds an extreme realism factor into the game, and i honestly have to say, i refuse to play any fps that does not implement some decent ragdoll physics.   COD2 on pc did not, and if the xbox360 is not going to have them, i sure as hell wont bother with it no matter how good the game is, the lack of ragdolls will take me right out of the gam,e and i cant help it.

does anyone know?

From what I can tell from review vids that are now out, the physics behave like the pc demo and the 360 build playing at kiosks...

Might be wise 2 start looking for a replacement come launch day.

ya pdz, was my second choice, well third, morrowind was my first but it got delayed sad.gif  but ya thanks for your help dudes, u've saved me 80 bux (cdn) on a game i wouldn't fully appreciate.  COD2 is basically cod1 with prettier graphics and not much else, what a waste of rebuilding ur own engine.

Condemned is supposed to use the Havok 3 engine....personally, I can't wait for COD2, I noticed Big Red One on XBOX has a little bit ragdoll going on, not as complex as a Havok game, but I dig it.....feenin like crackhead waiting for launch day over here...*shakes*

Gotta think though... the kiosk level of COD2 probably wasn't finished product... it was probably just thrown together to show some great visuals for the kiddies... wait for real reviews when someone plays the real game...

I have the game already if someone wants to loan me their Xbox360 they won  biggrin.gif

i cant argue with anyone's standard for gaming but it is a shame that subtle things like death animations will turn people away from a steller quality game.  every game has little nuances that arent like by people (me included) but if all the pros make the game great their easily forgotten.  i cant wait to play CoD2 because of the insane AI, non-stop action, and beautiful graphics.  the game may not have rag-doll physics but the soldiers still react very realistically where they are shot and even have animations when they are down including crawling away, taking last pot shots at you, or trying to take their own life.  in the end i say get what you will be happy with but there should be more on your list to go by when judging what to get out of a game, especially a launch game.

CoD2 does not have ragdolls or environment physics (like pushable boxes ala Halo2), which is one of the main turnoffs for me. CoD2 still uses a Quake3 derivant engine with normalmapped sugarcrusting which doesnt make it next gen enough for my tastes (in fact the lack of ragdolls makes it more like last gen since so many last gen games had it).

People who love CoD2 will not hear any arguments to the contrary so you'll just have to draw your own conclusions about its next gen qualities or lack there of.

I'm not saying cod2 is a crap game, i'm actually quite sure it's gonna be a amazing kage360.... but the thing is, i just plain can't get into it with the lack of ragdolls.  Cheezy animations that repeat over and over just plain take me out of a game, and like joergen said, it makes it feel very last gen, despite how good the graphics and ai are.  

There have been new standards set by games like hl2 and far cry, in regards to how much a physic engine can truly enhance an fps.

Look at it this way... did you ever play doom2 after doom 3 came out not including the playing for the nostalgia factor, probably not, the old game just feels way to dated..... because there is the lack of that true 3d environment which set a new standard for all fps games (im' not saying doom 3 was a forerunner of the 3d fps genre this is an example).  I feel that cod2 has not moved the fps genre forward at all, perhaps their ai is amazing, (so was far crys) perhaps the graphics are incredible (F.E.A.R. could rival it any day) maybe the game runs perfectly smooth ( far cry again pulled that off) i mean, sure these things are all great, but they've all been done before, and are by no means next gen.  Not adding ragdolls is like doom 4 going back to 2d.. unnacceptable.

ANyways, i was a little drunk while writing this, so it might not make complete sense, but my main point it, yes cod2 looks like a stunnign game, but it mostly just improves what last gen games already did, i want dynamics, i want nothing to be repeated, i want next gen technology god dammit, I WANT RAGDOLLS!!!
