USB Thumb Drive...
« on: December 05, 2004, 12:11:00 PM »

I have USB ports installed in my xbox controller, and I have a USB portable Thumb Drive.  Now, I was wondering if there is such a program, that allows you to transfer files from your USB thumb drive and back to it on the xbox.  I could transfer files from computers and xboxs easily.

I think Linux allows you to do this, but I'm not sure.  Is there already a program like this?  I would want to be able to launch it from EvoX and then just start transfering files!  Can somebody possibly look in to making such a program?

Thanks!

would be an excellent idea. i have a usb adapter that plugs into my xbox controller port. it would be wicked if i could use my old man's USB thumb drive to transfer files over. preferrably in the file system that the drives already use. it would mean no more burning cdrws or having to bring my xbox downstairs to ftp.

YES!

I believe if you stick the usb drive in the usb ports in your controller, the usb drive will show up as a new drive letter in boxplorer, and from there, you should be able to transfer stuff from usb to Xbox.

Not sure tho, never tried it.

That could be possible...

I'll try it soon, or total_ass should try it.

Yeah, I read the read me for BoXplorer, and it didn't mention anything about USB pen drives, so I doubt it will work.

If you use FlashFXP on your computer, it will show the USB drive plugged into your xbox as a new lettered drive.  Don't know if that helps at all, but it is there if you need it.

The main problem you have is getting an app on the xbox that will read fat32 drives i had a bit of a play and if I plug mine in it will show up in unleashX as unformated because it expects the drive to be a memory card and formated in fatX.

So you really need a special program that will read memory cards as fat32

i heard something about the xbox formatting the pen drive if used when the ms dash is on in order to make it fatx compatible, so be careful when messing around.

Anyways, I tried my 1 gig usb drive, but the MS dash would only blink at the memory screen.  Boxplorer didn't work either.  Evolution X slowed down completley when I connected the usb drive...

WE NEED A PROGRAM!

Obviously this would be a nice feature if XBMC supported it I would just die.

A good start might be here

http://support.MS.co...b;en-us;Q257751

xbox-linux already supports Removable mass storage devices fine so if you're really desperate this would work for you.

An xbox native app would be nicer of course.

This has been asked many times before.
Only small usb drives (16M or 32M) will work with any reasonable speed.
See the discussions for the Mega X-Key at: http://www.megaxkey.com/
