Do I Necessarly Need An Hd To Play Old Xbox Games On 360 ?

Hello guys,
I have an xbox360 without hard disk, and I would like to play old xbox games on my xbox360.
I read that I need the hard disk to boot the old xbox games on my new xbox360.

Is there any other work around to play old xbox games on 360, without buying an hard disk ?
