Dvd To Avi?

Just a quick question,
Is there any xbox software available at the moment, or soon, that can rip a dvd in the xbox, straight to divx on the hard drive. I don't always have a readily available ftp setup, and stock hard drive, so i was wondering if this is possible.

what i would like to see apart from the above is a DIVX to dvd comverter so when u have an avi film instead of converting it on ur pc and taking up resorses on ur pc u could just transfer the avi file to ur xbox and have the xbox convert it so u can still use ur pc :)

No.

You can install Linux and do what you are wanting, but it is a little "involved"...

On top of that, your Xbox is a PIII 733 with 64MB of RAM, and an ATA33 bus. Not the best machine for compressing DVD video...  <

No wise person will waste time on:
-Reinventing the wheel (some guy/girl in the stone age already did)
-Starting a doomed project (xbox WILL be terribly slow)
-Replying in a topic with a question that has been asked a thousand times before (crap, I just did)  <

I forgot to also mention the DVD drive is SLOW... It is like 4x I think... That compounds it even more..

Could you imagine compressing a DVD taking 8-12 hours? Imagine how pist you would be if it crashed at 99% completed  grr.gif
