Or more specifically, was there a game that you really didn't expect to like but actually ended up loving?

For me, it was a golfing game that my (now ex) BF picked up. I laughed my ass off when I saw that he picked up a golfing game. I thought it was entirely silly. Ended up eating my words though, as I actually LOVED that game.

The flip side to that.....

A friend recommended Dead Space to me, said it was the best game ever. So I bought it, and hated it.

crackdown: only got it for the halo 3 beta... very pleasant surprise...

Crackdown: Wasn't interested in the game or the Halo 3 Beta, but all of that changed once I played the Crackdown demo. I would have picked up the game even without the beta.

Dead Space: I kept away from the game since the early footage looked like a doom3 engine game in 3rd person, but finally picked it up for a decent price and what little I've played has been awesome IMO.

My backlog of games: I know this isn't a game, but I've never had an issue keeping up with the games I've picked up. Well between college, work, and starting my internship, I'm starting to build up a list of games that I'm neglecting.............unfortunately

Hmmmmm, I'm sure there are more, but I've played too many games this year to remember.

damn dude.. you are the first person I have heard disliking that game! it was lots of fun on my rental!

not a 360 game, but I am seriously shocked at how much fun I am having with little big planet.

The point of view really pissed me off, it seemed like your guy was blocking way too much of the camera. Reminded me of when my kids are standing in front of the tv.... Plus, and I get this, I just dont agree with it, but a head shot is a kill in any other game. Shoot off the arms instead = Lame. But I should give it another go, since it is just sitting on my shelf.

Prince of Persia series. I didn't play one till the 3rd installment came out, then went back and played the first 2 and most recent one.

Not quite that bad, but he basically takes up 1/3 of the screen. There is a visual indicator on the back of the guys suit that tells you his health and stasis levels.

one for me would be mirrors edge i thought that game was great and quite diffrent to anything else i have played last year also i was very much looking forward to playing mercenaries 2 before it cameout but when i got it what a crap game that turned out to be.

I have to agree w/ mirrors edge (better than i expected)

oh yeah and Mercenaries 2, that game blew, and so did Star Wars Force Unleashed. Big Hype, Epic Fail.

I loved Condemned, after missing it at release, and buying it later, kinda by 'accident', and not knowing how good it would be.

...Now I'm loving Far Cry 2. I was worried it would be like earlier Far Cry games but thankfully its not.
