I have an Elite, and I also have a mem card I used to move some stuff from my buddies Xbox 360 that I played on before I got my own.

Now I have a bunch of games/videos/saves/content on my hard drive. I've been playing a lot of games with my buddy now, and would like to be able to get the achievements and such from the games. Can I dump my profile onto the mem card with my saved games and not have problems with them? If I do that will all my content still be ok on the hard drive?

I've searched around and found a bunch of different answers, so I figured I'd ask myself here.

Thanks

Are Saved Games Assigned To The Xbox Itself Or The Storage Device?

Some save games cannot be transferred. For instance Tecmo (makers of the DOA series) likes to lock the save game to the storage device it was originally created on. There are a few other titles that do this as well.

Beyond that ALL Xbox 360 save games are locked to the profile. so if you were using a different account at your buddies house you will not be able to use any of those save games on your new account.

As for achievements the only reliable way to transfer those is through Xbox Live... ensure that your account is up to date on xbox.com and use the account recovery feature on the new console you want to move it to.

Achievement are NOT attached to save games in any way shape or form... They're completely separate items and they're part of your profile... which is why connecting to Xbox Live is the only reliable way to make sure your achievements are up to date.

If you plan on doing a lot of gaming from place to place I highly recommend just leaving your account and all of your save games on your memory unit. If you start to fill the unit then move a few older save games to your hard drive for archival purposes.

I gotcha I think.

If I take my hard drive to my buddies house, all save games will still work? Or are some companies locking them to the console itself as well as the storage device?

I don't believe that anyone locks the save games to the console itself.

moving the whole hard drive should work.
