I'd settle for giving Gold subscribers no ads.
Yes!!! My purchased themes (I have like 50 of them before dashboardthemes.com opened, and only about 5-6 are cool looking on my TV) sucks with the ads covering them

I didn't get this article, i thought XBLA was doing fine.
Purchased almost all of them and have lots of fun with them. Especially Geometry Wars (Some of those achievements are so damn hard to get)

Didn't know XBox Live Arcade was failing.

I've never had a problem with the D-Pad. What's wrong with it?
In games like Mortal Kombat, your fingers get slippery after a while so when trying to do a special move you can't do it because you jumped forward into the opponent on accident.....

Yeah - D-Pad fix (somehow - if Microsoft want to fix mine for free, go for it!!), and i would get a few retro games, Xbo 360 has put me right off the d-pad, but i loved it on the PS2

I think XBLA is doing ok, just needs better games, but as has been said, saying that is like saying "i want better retail games"

i really think that it is doing just fine as well - this sounds like a PR stunt to garner attention by the digital gamer, or that guy is just on a whinefest or something...

The article author has some good points, but is also overly dramatic and negative.  The service has some flaws but it offers some very inexpensive and convenient ways to get a new gaming experience.

I own more XBLA games than retail 360 releases and expect it to remain that way.

I rarely if ever play XBLA games...

Most games that I want are 800 points and not worth buying at that price. there are a good 30 or something games that I would buy at 400 points in a heartbeat but none of them at 800...

The other issue is I'm an achievement whore, and whether you agree with that gaming philosophy or not there are quite a lot of people who subscribe to it. Because MS decided to  have XBLA trials leave they're ugly residue on your gamercard (no doubt a ploy to get you to buy the full game) I've created a separate silver account to try out XBLA games with.... and that means it's a big more of a hassle to play them, as a result I've stopped caring almost completely.

If the trials didn't leave their mark on your gamercard I would probably auto download and try them out every week. Instead I don't even bother anymore.

IMO the 5 things they need to do are:

1. offer XBLA games at a sale price at some point, either drop the price a bit after X months, or even X years or maybe have a "half off week" where all the games are half price.

2. Remove the "feature" that leaves XBLA games on your card after a trial play... you don't put 0/1000 for retail demos so there is no reason to do it with XBLA trials.

3. Give something extra to Gold Subscribers. You don't need to give up the goods for free but maybe a 200 point monthly allowance or a straight up 10% off all Marketplace purchases would be good, and it would help along XBLA sales too where some people would be more likely to try out a game they might have passed up before.

4. If the Game is going to cost more than $15 offer it as a retail disc.... Lumines sales numbers were not up to snuff not due to lack of interest but because a fairly large segment of the market boycotted the release because you were charging $25 for a download. I also find the $30 worth of oblivion content rather ridiculously priced for intangible ownership.

5. Improve the way you check for bugs, ensure all achievements unlock and ensure that XBLA play is essentially lag free when connecting two people across the world. And if a developer wants to release a bug fix patch... LET THEM. It seems rather ridiculous how buggy some of the XBLA titles are, even more ridiculous when the developers make a public announcement that they've fixed the bug but we might not ever see it because MS is too busy to be bothered with the patch.  dry.gif

I really like the idea of 10% off for gold, and 200 points a month, make them expire every month, would really encourage you to buy something every month, and might even be enough to get me to pay for gold, even though I don't play online at all at the moment.

The limited ability to edit your games on your gamercard would be nice, even full versions you rent that you find out you couldn't possibly enjoy playing the game at all and it leaves the 0/1000 stain on your card.

I have major problems trying to find a store with points in stock. One month I did a 100 mile round trip looking for points with no luck.

I want to be able to buy points with my debit card but I dont want to link my card to my console forever.

Get Live Points into a major uk highstreet retailer eg Woolworths - they stock Wii points I never have a problem buying Wii points!

If I bought the game dont charge me for the gamer pic/theme to go with the game

The one pretty interesting feature of the Wii, as far as they talked about while launching the console, was giving out free content to Wii owners, like a random lottery.

That would make things kind of fun, one day you start up your 360 and get a free arcade game, theme, or gamer pics, etc.

I don't mind paying for the stuff, I dump too much money into XBL marketplace for DLC, but some perks every now and then would really make it feel like a much better value.
