Five Ways Microsoft can Save Xbox LIVE Arcade

For a while, the dream seemed to hold. Geometry Wars genuinely was the best launch title, Hexic was like peering into Charles Babbage's brain while he was bust knitting, and Robotron 2084 is the centerpoint of any non-insane game collection. Then along came XBLA Wednesdays - now there's a topper idea. It's like regular TV schedules, but for games. How can any of this possibly turn sour?

But turn sour it did. Nasty Digital Eclipse-powered shovel-overs, bizarre and sadistic pricing policies, and lackluster line-ups soon stepped on my pretty dream and ground it into the mud. But it doesn't have to be like this. Here, in fact, are five things the North-West Giant can do to sort out their own backyard, followed by one thing you can do to help them.

1. Support it, Microsoft
2. Less is more
3. No more ports
4. Fix that D-pad
5. Give Gold subscribers (gasp) free XBLA games

dont like it, dont buy it.
like it? buy it.

simple logic... i dont get XBLA games, except the free ones like aegis wing and texas hold em'.. and uno with my cam... but there are some decent games out there.

they cant all be winners... thats like saying "stop making crappy retail games".

I'd settle for giving Gold subscribers no ads.

Yeah, but would you rather there be NO news? The only thing I see on that list that seems important, is fixing the D-pad!!!

i thought it was doing fine too... although they do need to fix the D-pad

i just got 4000 points to spend on arcade
i can't resist getting my favorite childhood games (ie. golden axe, prince of persia)

plus arcade games are the best games to play around when you be drunk with people and have nothing better to do

Agreed.  I've been happy with the weekly releases.  Sure, they don't all interest me, but neither do all the retail releases.  I'm just glad we aren't going several weeks without news games like we were before.  Also, why no more ports?  I like the mix of classics and new games.

I agree with this article though.  This is why I haven't bought any XBLA games in a long time.  I'm tired of purchasing points over and over again.  And I deeply agree with fixing the D-pad and Gold members getting free stuff.  There is really nothing that separates Gold from Silver except for being able to play online (or now being able to play Games for Windows online but that doesn't count too much).

Didn't know XBox Live Arcade was failing.

I've never had a problem with the D-Pad. What's wrong with it?

Why not download them for free and play them on the pc? Even an old crappy pc will do.
I wouldn't mind buying these titles if they actually enhanced the graphics and sound of those titles. Usually, they are original ports with netcode added to them...what a borefest...what a waste of money.

One thing alone could save live, and that's allowing user created content for games such as oblivion etc. I've gone through every quest and there will be no future expansion packs. I can basically throw the game away, even though the pc version has the support of the modding community and are still releasing great addditions.

Free is the key for alot of the stuff on xboxlive.. There is really nothing free on it.

Arcade.. There is dev time that goes into some of them and i can see having to pay for some but maybe have afew free every now and then..

Now off topic..

Themes.. Why should we have to pay for something that is basically a promotion.. especial the movies, food and drink, and upcoming games. Also I know you have bought a theme only to find out its horrible..

Gamer Pics.... yea...

TV.. I think prime time (abc, nbc, fox, etc..) shows should offer their content free.. after all you can goto their website and watch them for free..

Movies.. Again have afew movies free every now and then.. Microsoft Movie Mondays.. have like 3 movies to pick from.. Maybe not NEW releases.. but you know..

I know some of the above is only <= 200 MS Points but its the feeling you get..

I love a good xbla game here and there. Can't complain really. Look at psn or wii. Half assed new games or games we've already played a bajillion times. At least the games we've played a bajillion times get a decent facelift on xbla. Except for doom, its fine how it is. mmmmm doom.

On another note, marathon was fucking hard as shit, but I still placed 15th overall in single player.

1. Support it, Microsoft
Wow. If Microsoft isn't supporting it.. then who the hell is!??!
2. Less is more
That's contradictory.
3. No more ports
Some ports are good.
4. Fix that D-pad
This isn't even directly XBLA related. It's an accessory issue. I've personally never had a problem with mine..
5. Give Gold subscribers (gasp) free XBLA games
I could go for this one. I rarely play XBLA.. perhaps I'd play it more if I got free games.

i havent seen a good release in forever.just over priced garbage..  i had high hopes for SF and MK but because of the dpad those hopes were killed very quickly, altho if you take apart the dpad and cut the bottem part into a + it works 100% better but still its hard to get off a upper cut with ryu.
