Looking For A Good Split-screen Co-op
« on: July 15, 2007, 10:22:00 AM »

i have an out of town friend who comes by every few weeks and we spend the evening playing video games and getting mashed.  We just finished playing Gears of War and are looking for a new split screen co-op game we can get into.  Any recommendations?  We are both FPS fans, but are willing to play anything as long as it's good.  He's not interested in "tactical" shooters like GRAW or rainbow 6.

I heard Earth Defense Force 2017, while incredibly cheesy, was a good time for co-op. It has split screen and it's only $40.

I don't think there is much else in terms of good offline split screen co-op on the 360. Everything seems to have moved to Xbox Live. Right now it seems Rainbow Vegas 6 and GRAW 2 are the last remaining options.

What about Call of Duty 3 or Lego Star Wars?

an xbox original you could try is unreal championchip 2, as it has bots, splitscreen, third person and firstperson, decent melee.

just something you may take interest in.

I didn't know COD3 had split screen co-op.  That will certainly fill the void.  And I'm pretty sure GRAW 2 doesn't let you do the campaign co-op, just the firefight mode, which is like Live but with bots instead.  I knew about Rainbow 6, but my friend's not into the shooters where you have to strategize that much.  He doesn't want to have to think while killing.

I haven't tried this myself but I think "Midtown madness: battle for suburbia" supports 2-4 splitscreen co-op play. I might remember wrong about it being split screen though, I don't own the game (alteast not yet, it looks kind of fun though so perhaps will get it later) and it was a while ago since I read the reviews about it.

I'm pretty sure it's 4 players on the same screen at the same time... There's a demo for it... I didn't really care for the game (just way too much stuff going on and sloppy controls) but it might be fun with a small group of people.

I was actually serious about PDZ... it offers co-op and once you get used to the controls and pace of the game it's really VERY fun.

I just picked up a new copy of Lego Star Wars 2 for $19.99. If you like Star Wars at all it is a very fun game, cheap, and it has co-op.

I don't know about PDZ, I've contemplated it for a long time and it's dirt cheap now, but everytime I ask someone about it they tell me it's horrible, especially the MP.

If you're anything like me after about an hour of the multiplayer you'll be saying to yourself that it COULD HAVE BEEN the best multiplayer FPS of all time if the gameplay wasn't so slow and clunky.

the features options, level design, weapons, weapon management, etc.  are all amazing but the HUD is ugly as sin  and the gameplay just isn't smooth or fast enough.

Basically it plays like Rare took the best ideas from everyone that ever had an opinion about an FPS and put them all into one game... hired a photoshop beginner to make the HUD and interface design and never play tested it.

It takes an hour or so to feel comfortable with the controls, and the speed of the game because it's very VERY different from Gears and Halo... but once you get into it, it's really quite a good game.

and besides you can get the LE version for $20 these days... so it's not like you're dropping $60 on it.

Yeah, except it's impossible to beat on the harder difficulties unless you exploit spawn points. tongue.gif
