No Final Fantasy For Xbox 360
« Reply #15 on: June 05, 2007, 02:01:00 PM »

I think I'm hearing "If I cannot get it for my XBox360 it must be crap" from all around the place.
Doing Final Fantasy for XBox360 isn't just "worth" for Square, they feel like it won't sell (and, reading comments here, they are fucking right).

i think there will be a FF game for the 360.
there is not said that they won't be making them, maybe later
MS should pay them to make a game, its almost the only way to get the 360 of the ground in japan etc.
it's an easy dissicion for japanese people. a ps3 with FF for about 700 euro or a 360 with FF for 400 euro.
just my 2ct

I agree, if m$ seriously want the 360 to take off in japan they need to be willing to pay huge sums to bag exclusives like this FF...I havnt been keeping up with the score but I'm guessing the 360 is doing pathetic in japan? Personaly I dont care much about not gettin the latest FF, I LOVED FF7 on PS1, in its day it was really cool. However I didnt like 8 or 9 much at all (they both lost the plot as you reach the end of the game...even FF7 kinda does to) and I hated 10 on PS2. Havnt bothered playing any since...

rofl.... they seriously shouldve ended the series while they were ahead

I mostly agree with that. FF1 didn't really grab my attention, but the original FF3(For the NES) was pretty good, then FF4-6 on the SNES. That's what launched me into RPGs! FF7 & 8 were great, IMO, but I never got a chance to really get into 9. 10 was ok, but not enough to play a second time for me.

Well I'm miffed, Final Fantasy XII for PS2 was a nice JRPG with good character design, a step away from the kiddie/dragon ball/pokemon look.
Apart from Blizzard nothing can touch Square CG.

I was hoping the 360 install base would be enough sad.gif

I'm quite surprised that nobody seems too bothered about FF here, they are personally some of my favorite games (though I have only played 7, 10 and 12 through to completion). People say they are like stories as if it is a bad thing, but that is precisely the reason I like them, because of the strong (if a little formulaic) story lines. I'm quite disappointed I won't be able to play it for the foreseeable future. Having said that this news is completely expected. FF is probably the last franchise likely to go to the 360 outside first party titles (apart from FFXI, which isn't a proper final fantasy anyway), firstly because squeenix haven't made very many games at all for Microsoft and secondly because sony would be stupid to let them make those games.

bah, who cares anyway.  FF games are trash and who wants to pay $12 more a month to play it or whatever they would charge.

This is an exclusivity thing, you can bet this is the kind of news that will make microsoft take action.  I read a while ago that after GTA, FF is the biggest franchise in the in the industry.

I Love FF, come on microsoft - rise to the challenge!!

I would argue that Halo is currently gaming's biggest franchise.

No way Halo is the biggest gaming franchise. For starters, it only has 3 games in it (one which isn't even out yet).

Secondly, it's only on two platforms (Xbox and PC,), three when Halo 3 comes out.

And most importantly, it's not as populous as Final Fantasy. Go to Japan, start talking about Halo, and count how many gamers don't look at you funny. I also  highly doubt that the number of Halo Players is as high as the number of Final Fantasy players when you consider the facts that Final Fantasy has been around longer and  been on more platforms (SNES, PS1, PS2, GCN, GB,GBA, DS,PC, and I'm sure there's one on PSP).

Same goes for Pokemon.

Personally, I'd love to see FF on Xbox 360 so I'd have one less console to buy. Judging by the responses in this thread, it's clear why the original Xbox had a lack of game variety (most good xbox games were shooters, sports, and racing type games - games where you mostly repeat the same actions over and over again).

FF is about the most repetitive game you could ever think of.  Do a fight, cure cure cure, run around fight, cure cure cure, find items, go sell.  Fly around, land, run around for random fight, cure cure cure.  Repeat, repeat.  FF 2 for SNES and FF7 for PS are the only FF games I ever beat or liked.
