Linksboks: How To Scroll Up & Down With A Keyboard
« on: August 11, 2004, 10:41:00 PM »

I have spent numerous hours trying to figure out how to scroll-up/down with the LinksBoks browser for the Xbox. The "Keys" document found under the menu option of Help>Keys list all the keyboard shortcuts for the browser. It list scroll-up as ^P and scroll-down as ^N. I initially thought the ^ in say ^N stood for the Cntrl key but was wrong. I then tried every other key combination I could think of (alt, Shift, Tab, Windows key) with no solution. I even tried to literally enter ^N as ^N (shift+6+N) again with no solution. The rest of the keyboard shortcuts worked as noted in the keys document (ie "[" is scroll-left (without the quote marks) and "]" is scroll-right, etc.) I followed all this up with Xbox-scene Forum searches in addition to a google search of the Forums with no real answer. I now turn to the xbox-scene community for the answer and please let me thank you all in advance.

supernickdude,

Thanks for the reply. Occasionally, Linksboks freezes but I never attributed it to pop-ups or pop-unders so that's something to think about. I will run cross platform test (Xbox (LinksBoks) & Windows XP (IE)) to see if your observation holds true time after time. If it does, we could forward the results to the developers to further tame the ever expanding world of the Xbox.

Hey, is there a browser I can use on the XBOX that doesn't require a keyboard? I spent an hour or so with Links2Boks trying to use a controller but no luck.

I'd rather not have a keyboard in my living room if i can help it

Never tried it with any anything but a controller... keyboard support is an extra, actually.

What's your problem exactly?  <

ysbox,

Thanks for the reply. I believe I emailed you from an address provided on the LinksBoks Wiki a few days ago. For others in the community, my research showed that a keyboard (with a MS USB Adapter) could be used with the LinksBoks browser on the Xbox. I purchased both and connected them to my system. I then located a list of all Keyboard-Shortcuts under the menu options of Help>Keys within the LinksBoks browser. The majority of the shortcuts work as advertised except for the ones that include the ^ symbol (^P is Scroll-Up and ^N is Scroll-Down) which stands for the Cntrl key. Thus, my dilemma was that I could not Scroll-Up and Down within a website without going between the Keyboard and Xbox controller. ysbox confirmed that ^N and ^P (Cntrl+N and Cntrl+P) do work on the Links2Browser (Linux) which LinksBoks was ported from. He did propose a work around which consist of going to the menu option of Setup>Options Manager>Section Document and Disabling Keyboard Navigation with the Start Key on the Controller. You then must go to the menu option of Setup>Save Options in order for the change to take place (note that you don’t have to restart LinksBoks in order for it to work). You should now be able to scroll-up and down within a website with a keyboard. I did notice that you will have to Disable Keyboard Navigation each time you power up the Xbox and use the keyboard in LinksBoks. Thanks again to ysbox and any others involved in bringing LinksBoks to the Xbox.

Depends a lot on the Dashboard you're using (EvolutionX, MXM, UnleashX.) Past that, check the newbies forum, along with tutorials. Really good resources.  <
