My thoughts...

This thread might actually be interesting since instead of flaming left and right I'll just watch.

anyone else see similarities between xbox live and the movie.

all we'd need is full sensory immersion and the video game becomes reality.

how long do you guys think it'll be before we see gaming that looks so real , you can't tell its a game?

I've seen those simulators they use in the military. the guys trained to fly apaches and the jet fighters , tank crews, even the infantry all use some sort of video game sims for training.

In another 25-50 years I think we'll probably be cyborgs, judging by the way technology is advancing.

your thoughts?

But then each game would have to interact with each other to truly give a smooth experience.  And they would all have to be on a mainframe to remove the need to change discs.  And then we would need to realize that xbox live is just for entertainment, and that in order to be more like the matrix it has to mimick everything in life.

So no, xbox live isn't like the matrix.  Second life is more like the matrix.

On the other hand, sony already has a patent on technology to beam things into your brain.  http://arstechnica.c...50407-4785.html  (Old article, none of the links on it work)

And im sure the processing power for photorealistic rendering in real time exists today (the catch is being able to actually display it somewhere, this is where beaming it to your brain comes in.  No display  biggrin.gif )

BTW, I think the dice and ice cube look fake

So I suppose that it is possible, however, I agree with a previous poster, you have watched too many action movies.

The Matrix was a ripoff of Dark City.  Take off the trenchcoat, turn down the techno and go get some sun.

Don't you mean Sci-Fi movies?

I think it's interesting.  Me being ex-military, I think we are moving in the VR direction very quickly.  Can't wait to see what comes of it.

so you know what kind of simulators the military has then.

I've seen some training simulators they've got. its like a big video game. they had a tank training simulator on a show on discovery channel once. its like xbox live.

although, leave it to the army to spend $10 million to make a simulator that was shittier than the ones MS used to sell to pc users for $50.
