What do you need Config Magic for, anyway? You can lock/unlock and format HDDs using EvoX. What more do you need?

Plus there are a few people out there with PAL 1.6 Xbox's who would like to change their region to NTSC to use UDE2.

I need to reflash the EEPROM on my 1.6, so I'm hoping it comes out soon.

Have you tried EEPROM Magic.. It doesn't do any checking of any kind regarding versions I don't think. (It works with a completely corrupt eeprom image on the chip when you boot with a valid eeprom embedded bios on a modchip). It's exactly the opposite of Config Magic though.. It has no editing features or safety checks, it simply flashes the eeprom image you give it onto the chip.. No more, no less.. If you use it incorrectly it can cause your xbox to flash red and red without video. (Fix this with an eeprom embedded bios on a modchip). At least it should be capable of reading/writing 1.6 eeprom images.

the eeprom key changed for 1.6, evox/cf/everything else will need to be updated for support.
