Umm yeah its microsofts fault EA sports made two different games that arent compatable with eachother. I dont think there is any game that has been released on two different consoles that are compatable with eachother.

I thought you could play Halo 2 on both the Xbox and the Xbox 360 on Live and compete, no matter what hardware the game was running on?

I believe Shadowman, or something like that, will be the first game that you can play together on different machines.  All though I believe the 2 machines will be the 360 and the PC.
