Not to be a pedantic asshole but according to the 1-10 ratings scale 5 should be average. It's only due to stupid magazine writers in main stream publications that have pretty much turned it into a 5-10 scale with 1-5 reserved for games like Rise of the Robots.
The scale should read:
1- Terribel do not play.
2- Terrible but at the developer kind of made an effort
3- Very bad but has a few redeeming features which may require a viewing
4- A little below average, very rough around the edges.
5- Average, normal, un-spectacular.
6- Slightly above average. Worth a play.
7- Very good. You should probably buy this game.
8- Excellent. Get it if you can afford it.
9- Near perfect. Not one to miss.
10- Perfect as at this moment / genre defining to this point.
Or as EDGE now puts it in it's 'ratings explained' section, after countless arguments with readers over games they felt deserved a higher rating due to other publications preception of the 1-10 or 1-100% scale.
1 = 1
2 = 2
3 = 3
4 = 4
5 = 5
6 = 6
7 = 7
8 = 8
9 = 9
10 = 10

Twisted you're bang on the money. I think the parachite thing was even a combination rip-off of the parachite in san andreas and the extensive use of the parachute in Battlefield 2 (PC) where it is integral to gameplay.
