I was walking around Best Buy in the 360 section and one of the employees asked me if I had seen the new Half-Life demonstration created just for the 360 version of the game. He showed me a non playable demo that showed some multiplayer elements that I have never seen before (sorry if any of this is old). The demo talked about how participants of experiments could change physics. In it a character shot a gun that created the start of a portal and then shot again to create end of it. Objects could fall from one side of the screen to the other with this. It was like a puzzle, and he said that it would be about 16 players at a time shooting these things. Also in the demo were players falling in a loop and the environment taking on dreamlike qualities. At one part the computer voice said that a scenario is impossible and then the character started shooting the portal gun all over the place. I hadn't been giving this game much thought, but now it has my interest.

I dont exactly trust anyone at bestbuy. They have given me alot of false info about games. Tried to tell me the other day that dead rising didnt come out for two more weeks.

Ive been waiting to try this new portal technology since they announced it... Honestly i think valve is teh most innovative developer out there... their ideas push gaming further than any or at least most companies.

Also, the actual development studio behind Portal created a similar game way before Prey came out. I forget the name of it though

Thanks guys for clearing some of this up. For some reason when I posted this topic the word "video" eluded me. I think it was because I had been up for 50 straight hours.

Bottom line America; Portal will be a trip.

I agree, but don't tell Gabe Newell that, his head might get so big it'll asplode and then we'll never get any new games

the portals are prety much the WHOLE game, from the looks of the demo you pretty much have one weapon and that is a combination portal gun and gravity gun. Of course it could just be a tech demo and that's all their showing.

no its an entire game from what I saw, its a puzzle game where you have to figure out the physics of the gun and game to figure out how to get to the end of the level. Though incorporating it into an actual shooter would be sick

hehe I can imagine shooting one off the side of a cliff, then camping and when someone walks by shoot the other portal right under them

Its a new game that comes WITH half life on the 360 (along with chapters 1 and 2) and will be released on the PC as well. It isn't part of the Half Life 2 game itself (or chapters 1 and 2). It's a puzzle type game played in first person.
