If there are talking about a new game already that's gotta mean Halo3 is closer to complete than everyone thinks... or not and they aren't focusing completely on Halo3.

my opinion halo 3 is alot farther along then they are admitting think about halo & halo2 they are allmost entirely responsible for the xboxes success and they know it so why delay halo 3 to work on something else when you know halo 3 will be a license to print money? and also while gears of war looks awesome it doesnt have the built up following of halo 3 and they know if any one game can piss on the ps3,s parade a little its halo 3...

Even if halo 3 is 9 months away from release. The creative team is probably done. The storyboarding and writing is probably all done. Now that team needs to start on somthing else. While the progrmers, artists, soound team, exc. do thier part to fish the game.

If they are announcing it like this.... its a MMORPG hands down... with how much money blizzard is making on WOW trust me MS is begging for a game of that calibur to blow xbox live up......
