It was revealed yesterday that a major new IP from Microsoft Game Studios is going to be announced in the near future, with the European Xbox event X06 most likely to be playing host to the news. Fresh information obtained by SPOnG today reveals Bungie will be announcing a brand new IP in the near future, with the X06 announcement likely coming from the Halo-famed studio.

Speaking to a Microsoft source close to the management of the entire Xbox 360 project today, we were told that, "As far as things stand, Halo 3 is the last game [in the series] and it's more than just 'a thing to say' which I know came as a surprise to everyone [at Microsoft Game Studios not involved with the decision-making process] when it was announced. A new game from Bungie, not Halo 4, will be announced soon and pre-production has begun. So if you're looking for what to expect at X06, you should be looking at that."

IP = Intellectual Property...basically a new series/game/franchise...

I have no idea either, but its the author's fault. Any time you use an abbreviation you have to tell the readers what it means.

Not true, most of us know what it is. If I used abbreviations like lol or ASAP would I have to tell my readers what that means? You have to have your target audience in mind when writing. If I was writing to a bunch of divers I would say SCUBA but if I was writing to a bunch of 10 year olds I would probably say Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA)

Since most people reading that would understand what IP was there was no need to define it. You wouldn't expect to pick up an advanced quantum physics book and have the author tell you what every abbreviation in it meant would you?

A new game in the Marathon series would be awesome. Sometimes I still fire up my old mac and play Marathon Infinity, lol.

For one thing, if this secret new Bungie IP was to be as big a hit as the Halo series in terms of potential,
they wouldn't even mention it before the release of Halo 3.
Again, only if it's as good as the Halo series....
(So I don't think Bungie is releasing any new IP news in a while. Until after the release of Halo 3 at least)

So if this is true in any way, I expect the new IP to be something very different.
And I don't mean a very different type of game compared to Halo, I'm saying this thing won't even be an action title. It would be something off the wall at least....
You know, how Rare went from PDZ to like, Viva Pinata.

I just don't think Bungie are stupid enough to alienate the return of the Chief.

I don't like a single game of bungie except the halo series.

How are they going to compete with themselves on beating halo.

I was hoping for more Marathon, but since its a new IP, I guess its something totally new. Knowing bungie, whatever they crank out will be cool.

Which brings up a question. What do you think the genre will be?
Another FPS? Action/Adventure game? Puzzler? Fighting?
Something new from Bungie would be nice, however do you think they should stick to their strong points (FPS).

It would be good to see something new and fresh out of bungie. Those guys are probably burnt out as hell on halo crap.

I know what it is.... its probably some game about the creation of the halo (im talking about the weapons)...and there is gonna be some ancient master chief and blah blah blah...

I have not tried it but I am gonna.
