Could Dead Rising Be A Huge Hit?
« on: July 23, 2006, 04:56:00 PM »

The more I see of this game, the more I can't wait to play it. It looks to me like a real dark horse. I think that the lack of online multiplayer is going to affect it in the long run, but that could be a feature that we will see in a sequel. for the time being it looks like one of the strongest titles this year. Does anyone else think this game is going to be big?

hmmm... it makes me think "state of emergency".

sure it will be like 50x better, but i still think after a few three hour rounds of dead rising, i will be good.

a definite gamefly rental, not a purchase...

unless the story mode scopes out further than 8-10 hours, which i cant see happening with this style of gameplay.

on my list for sure though.

multiple endings, capcom unlockables, crazy achievements. I think this, at least, is going to be a huge cult hit, as most zombie/capcom  things are.

this will most certainly deserve a 2nd romp.... i.e. KILL 53, 579 (something like that) zombies. wow.

dead rising is seriously why I bought this system months and months ago. I played it at CES for a min, and I gotta say this game is indeed amazing.

add: I thought I read something about a overtime mode or something to that effect. I'm guessing after the inital romp they open it up for nonstop zombie killing fun.

well in that case then i WILL buy the game. if the game is over and the only way to kill more zombies is to start another campain, im not buying it. right now ive been playing the saights row demop like WOAH. 2 many games coming out at once.

This game has always interested me simply because of the number of characters on screen (anyone remember Capcom boasting about 4 in Resident Evil 2?). The thing is that it has always looked really quite shallow to me.

I'll play it but I'm really not expecting a game which will hold my attention for months. I feel that the amount of excitement surrounding this title is due to it being a title shown at E305 and we have simply been waiting to see it since then. If it was announced and released in 360s mid life then I think it would be relatively un-noticed. Traditionally this is the kind of game that would get more attention in Japan, especially with the addition of the Fatal Frame style - gotta get em all - photography. Reminds me a lot of Zombie Revenge (DC).

I seriously can't believe there is no multiplayer/co-op to this game. I think it will really hurt sales of the game in the end. It looks like a fun game but you can only play this type of game for so long by yourself before getting bored. Co-op really brings these type of games to life.

Just becuase a game dosn't have xbox live isn't a real reason not to get it.....

"Oh no, Super Mario brothers dosn't have online co-op...I'm not gonna ever play that crappy game!"

Just becuase it isn't on live, dosn't make me feel like I shouldn't buy this game. Yeah, it would be awesome to have online play, but oh well it dosn't so no sense crying over it. It's gonna be an amazing game.

Even if a game has XBL these days, if it doesn't have some kind of local multiplayer, I feel like the game is anti-social.  Xbox Live doesn't make me feel like I'm being social, it's like talking on the phone with someone.

The sad thing is that so many games right now emphasize single player or online play.  As if the old days of local play is something to shy away from.  I don't get it.

Let my friend kill zombies with me so he isn't bored off his ass watching someone play a game.

I'm going to rent the game on GameFly, and I think it will stay at my house for a few weeks and be a great game. From the looks of it I think it is going to be a hit, but I can't really see myself buying it. If the sequel had online co-op and vs. modes, that would be the type of game I would buy. To me, the Live functions are a big determinant in making a purchase. I can only see myself actually buying Gears, Halo 3, and Live Arcades games for the time being.

Nobody is crying over it. It's a simple matter of people not thinking they are going to get $60 worth of enjoyment out of a 7 hour long single player game. Multiplayer modes could have made a huge difference in this thinking.

Also I don't see how bringing up a 15 year old game made in the days of the 2400 baud modem has anything to do with today. Welcome to 2006. If you don't give me an epic single player adventure, it sure has hell better have some online modes to last me more then a few days.
