Theseis for PS3 cancelled - too costly to develop
by PS3Land

Track7 Games has contacted PS3Land to inform us that Theseis for PlayStation 3 has been cancelled.

The developer blames the problem on the exceptionally high cost of developing for PS3.

For now, the game will only be released on Xbox 360 and PC.

"If Sony were to offer us assistance in producing a PS3 version we would be more than happy to oblige!" said Vicky Valanos, Managing Director.

Stay tuned for more...

So this basically goes hand in hand with my whole theory that we will see alot of exclusives for both consoles, but this one seems to be giving Ms the "one up" over Sony. I can see this being a problem with other third party devs looking to put games on multiplatforms, ultimately leading to alot of 360 and pc exclusives, leaving Sony eating dirt.
This kind of concerns me because I dont think exclusivity is a good thing when it comes to consoles, A few first party games, sure. But when we are looking at 50 + exclusives for each console, then there is a problem (at least in my eyes). Not everyone can afford to pay upwards of $1000 just to play the games that they enjoy, whether it be MGS, FF, AC, Thesis, Halo, GoW or GeOW.
Id like to hear your input on this.

I think this gen we'll see more cross platform games than ever.   because of the increased costs of development, (and consoles, and Games) Game Devs will need to get their games into as many gamers sweaty palms as they can.
look at GTA, and resident evil.  more platforms = more $$
if a Dev doesn't think increased revenue from going Multi platform justifies cost, the most likely reason is they aren't confident the game will be a high seller, not that PS3 is just too costly

but you're right that exclusives will suck for us.   this time around it will be a lot more expensive to own every system.

if they want to sell the game in a world wide scale then they will have to make the PS3 version no matter what the cost will be because thats where the real money is. its only a matter of time before the PS3 version is announced  wink.gif

thats what big game makers did they released thier games on PS2 first then few months later they feed the left overs to the xbox. some dont even feed the xbox any left overs they made their top titles exclusive for the PS2 until this very day.let MS keep on converting PC games to the xbox 360 sleeping.gif

funny how you make claims about a system that doesnt even exist yet  rolleyes.gif  its fine to post your biased opinion, but your a fool to speak of them as fact.  the truth is that sony's consoles usually have the lowest game-to-console ratio which would not support your opinion.

as for the news,  i have seen and posted this in the ps3 forums.  Its not surprising considering that the ps3 dev kit alone is insanely expensive but i also find it hard to believe that this is the only reason since most publishers/dev teams usually arent so careless to plan their budgets.  i honestly dont see this becoming a trend though.  as expensive as it may be to make ps3 games, the additional cost shouldnt be that high if the game is planned to be multi-platform from the beginning.

I can totally see how high in cost it would be for PS3 games. In order for them to make it as good as they can be, they have enough in the budget for xbox 360 and pc version. Keep in mind the PS3 to most developers is not easy to program for. You know the PS3 will be much more expensive than the 360 becuase the dev. tools for the 360 is a hell of alot easier to program for. For the PS3 they have to almost rewrite the game to make it run on the PS3, which in the long run could take longer to develop for. And I can see this on the dev. perspective. It would just cost to much.

well, if a game is written with the mind set of making it multiplatform, the code can be written for easy portability which would make things easier. from what i heard the cell is a bitch to program for and requires multiple compilations (the cell chip in general, meaning even the version in computers), don't know how accurate this is but someone at my work was mentioning a week or two ago.

PS3land.com wrote an erroneous article on June 29, 2006 regarding track7games and our upcoming game, "Theseis".

track7games would like to clarify that we never cancelled something that did not exist in the first place. We plan to develop "Theseis" for PC and Xbox360 in the near future. As for the PS3, we simply made a strategic decision to not move ahead because we deemed it not probable at this time.
