Are you kidding...

3.5Bn to secure PES I don't think would be worth it... HOWEVER 3.5Bn to secure PES, DDR, MGS, and Silent Hill would DEFINITELY be worth it.

wouldn't that be something... MGS4 suddenly becomes Xbox 360 exclusive... Kenny K would shoot himself.

From a speculation standpoint, this would be an Xbox lover's dream come true.  I know that I will end up purchasing a PS3 when they are more affordable so I can bust out some FFXIII and MGS.  The hard part is that I have so few compelling reasons to buy one.

yeah did consider that , but didn't want to get into a battle of 'x game is published by y, not developed inhouse' without much knowledge... so yeah, even more reason!
I do think you underestimate PES however (just as I do Madden), in fact Id almost go so far as to say 'mainstream' gaming appeal in Europe came with PES to an extent, not Playstation. - seriously, i don't want to start any bitching (obviously not with you twisted - in the thread in general) but *IMO (and that of many of my mates) PES was the only reason to own a PS2, and, unbelievably (after whining about supercancel/black button), all of my mates with that version have admitted its inferiority. - This alone did alot for xbox credibility (but perhaps not sales - couldn't find any info on it... or any other platform) - In the UK it is rare to find a person aged 15 or so up that won't think they can give you a whooping at PES, and who at some stage has owned it or had a mate that has.

In anycase, it makes you wonder about MS' strategy/drive to win........ like you said, it would definately be worth it.
Given MS' 'reputation' I have been surprised at all this talk of 'high developement costs' and dwindling exclusivity - surely it should have almost become a franchise (takeovers/buyouts, you know what i mean) battle by now....

*edit: PES = Pro Evo Soccer/ winning eleven

Perhapse I do underestimate PES's power in the European market... here in the states I don't anyone who's even heard of it, let alone played it.

But I suppose if it's essentially the same deal as Madden (I hate personally but it sells unbelievably well because of the popularity of the sport) it would make sense that PES would move consoles in europe if it was exclusive/semi exclusive.

You people...you make me laugh.

You talk of Konami and mention PES, MGS and Silent Hill...

You are missing some of the greats:
Contra
Castlevania
Gradius
The Turtles Games (Yeah I know I had to throw it in there)
Ye Air Kung Fu (Another one of my favorites)
NOt to mention Arcade hits like:
X-Men (the sweet 6player one)
Lethal Enforcers
The Simpsons and Sunset Riders...

But yes I think MS would be in a good posistion if they were to aquire (or become majority) in Konami.

While it wouldn't hurt, last time I check TMNT and Ye Air Kung Fu didn't move consoles...

we're talking about franchises that would actually benifit MS at a cost of 3.5Billion

point is most people i know who own a ps2 (in fact all i think) i doubt would look twice at the ps3 without pro evo, and at worst would also own a 360. And they are all ps fans....

I was thinking about this off and on today.  There would be some potential negative backlash on this.

Imagine all the die-hard PS3 fans in Japan who would curse the "American Devils (M$) for taking Solid Snake away from their precious Sony

Hideo Kajima may decide to take a walk if he had to change gears to work on the 360 instead of the PS3.

If it was a hostile, buy out manuever by MS, it could create a backlash from developers.  There aren't that many people who are comfortable with this type of thing.

I still love the idea, just wanted to play Devil's Advocate for a moment. muhaha.gif

And another thing, why haven't we had a new Blades of Steel?!?!?!?!

yeah, good point; but im not sure that the hostility would amount to much, or for that long. Yes I would be slightly worried as the owner of a development team if i saw another bought out by MS. But this wouldn't stop me marketing games for that console - my job would be to make money regardless of the market. - but yes I may look less favourably upon that console's manufacturer.

In anyevent I think what im trying to get at is that 'business is business': As an owner of a developer I would be worried, yet also a stockholder/director, therefore either way I personally win = no grudges. As for the development team bought up - they would not give two shits as long as things improved within the firm.

Unfortunately money can right most wrongs...... especially when combined with words like 'freedom.'
MS - "we are providing creative freedom from financial restraint for this firm" - you know thats the slogan they'd go in with.

-------------------------------------

Im getting sidetracked though- the question is why has MS not really acted like it gives a shit? GTA first day? pff, ffs, thats like putting on a advert saying "360; can just about do what the (yet to be produced) PS3 can, but with more effort" - great, now whack a 'transfer' on your arm, look like an excitable twat and hope that consumers are as dumb as Sony says they are......... tongue.gif
