Updated: Bungie/Xbox.com Removing Threads of 'leaked' Halo 3 Screens?-- Posted by HSDEMONZ on May 16 11:27 EST
All over the net, stories are quickly popping up regarding these recently released photos, taken of what is allegedly an early Halo 3 Menu screen.

It's not uncommon to get real and fake/manufactured pics of hot upcoming projects months before a project goes gold/final. What I find even more interesting is the follow-up reports we're getting of people having posts/thread about these two photos being closed on Xbox.com and Bungie.net forums.

The legitimacy of these photos will be questioned until someone from within the key organizations either acknowledges them as legit early screens, or dismisses them as outright fabrications.

It's your call.

UPDATE From: www.bungie.net:
Quote

Here's the deal, folks.
The longstanding policy that in these forums that leaked information is not allowed stands. However, we're tightening the restrictions a bit.

There's a lot of jerks out there that are going to try to get attention by faking "leaked Halo 3 information." A good example would be that "leaked" Halo 3 start menu that people are fruitlessly freaking out about as I write this.

The fact of the matter is that the people that know whether leaks are real or not, namely myself or anyone else that actually works at Bungie, do not have time to go through the forums, watching for leaked content. Nor do we have the time to reply to every stupid rumor you hear with a yay or nay to its veracity. With exception to Ninja on Fire, the rest of the moderators know just as much as you do about development. That means that, with some fakes, they won't be able to tell, just as you won't.

So, we're changing the rule to make it easier on the moderators that don't have an inside track at Bungie.

Any poster that provides any information they claim to be "leaked" will be blacklisted from the forums without the option of appeal. This includes:
Links to alleged screenshots
Links or pasted documents that are alleged descriptions of gameplay, scripts, or whatever.
Any attempt to claim to have "insider information" into the development of Halo 3, or Bungie Studios in general.

The exception to the rule is discussion about rumors mentioned in magazines or reputable websites. "Websites" does not include forums. Posting what you read in randomxboxforum.com constitutes rumormongering and will be treated the same as someone trying to start a rumor from scratch: Blacklisting.

If they are fakes, they look very good to my (admittedly untrained) eye.

However, the fact that Bungie/Xbox are banning people for linking them suggests to me that they are real; in the past, if something is fake, Bungie dismisses it as being fake, rather than banning people.

I think it's fake. Anybody with a lil H2 modding knows that the intro screen can be changed. Not to say this is what makes if fake, but notice that in the lower left it says "friends" and the "Y" button, H2 had that, so I think it's a fake for sure.

EDIT: I find that "classic mode" very interesting if this is real.

Personally.. I think they might be Fake.

However, even if they are real.. they will not likley be the final menu screen. So much of the time, menu screens released/leaked this early before a product launch, rarely finds it's way into the final product.

How's that for sitting on the fence... smile.gif

Me too. And just based on the prior frontpage story about Halo 3 and the Camera...Could the Campaign mode use the camera for looking around within the game and classic mode means to turn it off?????

Hmmm. ph34r.gif

Now that's sticking your neck out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

It's probably true that if they are real, things will change in the final build. Another thing that seals the pictures as being true for me however, is a response by one of Bungie.net's forum moderators. One that actually works at Bungie and so knows if they are fake or not. And he didn't explicitly confirm them as fakes.

the presence of the Y button for the friends list kinda makes it seems fake as you would use the guide to see your friends list not the halo 3 gui

I agree, i think its fake  ... the whole fact that it has the old Halo 2 "Y" and "Friends" on the bottom makes me believe its fake ... the game is made for the Xbox 360 ... which means the game will incorporate the dashboard into the game .. you would probably have to go through the guide to go through the friends list like all other 360 games .. they could put it in as a shortcut kind of thing but i would still doubt it

to do this they could have just created a file on the computer .. then stream the image to the TV using the streaming abilities of the Xbox 360 and take a picture of the tv

The Xbox guide friends list is better anyway, it doesn't freeze like the Halo 2 one.

Since we seem to have a number of people who think it's a photoshop...

Can we see some better "fake" Halo 3 menu screens? I'm sure some of you can do better. Post here.

My nack is that in both screens the rings are in the same posision, They look like something that would rotate around and look pretty cool, halo 1 and 2 both have moving objects on the title so why would halo3 have static rings?

Its months before the game launch yes, but why not add ring movement if you already made half a menu.

u make an interesting point....i dont think that i would enjoy halo 3 if they did that. Then again, bungie is trying to be innovative...i just dont htink the cam would be a worthy selling point.

I think this could be legitimate, i think the closing of the threads on Bungie.net points to it being real, but then again, there are some very creative pranksters out there.
