Xrick....
« on: June 17, 2004, 07:10:00 PM »

I have got just about every homebrew game working except one called xRick.  I'm not sure what is missing but when I download the official xRick version 3 .RAR file and FTP it to my XBox, when I run it, I get nothing but a black screen and nothing me.  In order to get back to Evox, I need to do a restart on the XBox.

I then also FTPed files called xrick.6.gz, zlib.dll, and sdl.dll to the XBox and still it is not working.

Lastly I downloaded the xRick sources, the sources for SDLx version .10 and compiled and linked them using Visual Studio .Net 2003 with the XDK version 5849.  I compiled it all and linked it without any errors with the release versions of the extra libraries.  The resulting XBE file was slightly larger than the one that shipped in the .RAR file for version 3.  I moved it to the XBox and I still have the same problem.

Does this homebrew game actually work at all?  It is the only one that I can't get working and it is the one I most want to play.

Am I just missing some other files that I can either purchase somewhere or download?

Any ideas?

Thanks and Best Regards,
Bill T.

Any ideas?  I'm really only looking for missing files names here.  (Just the names - not the files themselves. )  I just need the names and/or the names of any additional package(s) that I need to obtain, purchase. etc in order to get this this particular homebrew game working properly... so that it doesn't just run to a black screen and crash the XBox.

Has anyone even run this game on the XBox, or even tried?  What were your results?  wink.gif

I dont know about Xrick, but for aq lot of ported open source games, you have to download the Windows version and copy over the game file (like with doom it was doom.wad)

Read the readme, it prolly documents it.  <

Well I've looked at the included readme files and there is nothing anywhere that I can find that documents what extra files are needed and not included in order to make the game work.

I'm still looking though.  If I learn anything, I'll update this document with the final outcome.  Considering the responses to this topic, it seems not many are actually using or playing this game.

Well.... finally I have figured it out.  It seems that I had to compress the sounds into a zip file called data.zip and put that file in the root of my xRick folder and that made everything work.  Finding that bit of knowledge was indeed difficult at best though.  wink.gif

So, it all works now... thanks again for the help.
