4 Player Games
« on: April 13, 2006, 11:00:00 AM »

I'm sick of 360 (and xbox 1) games that don't allow 4 players on one xbox. Why is single player and online multiplayer there, but no split screen; And if it is there, it's usually two player.

So lets make a list, to help people, of all of the games out for the 360 that do have 4 player multiplayer per xbox. And a list that doesn't. If you reply/ PM me I'll add games to the list.

4 PLayer:
CAll of Duty 2
Dead or Alive 4
Gauntlet
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
The Outfit
Perfect Dark Zero
Rumble Roses XX
Wik: Fable of Souls

No 4 Player:
Amped
Battlefield 2
Blazing Angels
Condemned Criminal Origins
Dynasty Warriors 5
The elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Far Cry Instincts Predator
Fight Night Round 3
Final Fantasy XI
Full Auto
Kameo: Elements of Power
King Kong
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Legends
Madden 2006
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Project Gotham Racing 3
Quake 4
Ridge Racer 6

I would appreciate any feedback.

You can play double match on top spin 2. 4 person can play on the same screen, no need to split. and how about GRAW? I don't think you could play tag matches on DOA4 for 4 players do you?

DOA4 is 4 player 2 on 2 tag teams  smile.gif
Rumble Roses also allows for 4 players at once
I haven't played any of the sports games but I would assume they're all 4 player on screen at once.

I've heard the Outfit supports 4 players split (but I've also heard that game sucks  laugh.gif )

Burnout Revenge can only do 2 player split screen however certain modes will let you play up 6 or 7 where you take turns and pass the controller around.

American Wasteland MIGHT do 4, though I'm not sure and I don't have the game anymore to check.

I also think GRAW does 4 locally, though I've never played it so I can't comment.

Amped 3 only does 2 player (and very limited at that)
Kameo only does 2 player split screen
Blazing Angels does 2 play split
Dynasty Warriors does 2 player split
Fight Night does 2 players at once
Full Auto only does 2 player split
NFS MW only does 2 player split
Far Cry has no local multi
Quake 4 has no local multi
FFXI has no local multi
Ridge Racer 6 has no local multi
King Kong is single player only
Tomb Raider is single player only
Condemned is single player only
Oblivion is single player only

As for XBLA games
Both Wik and Gauntlet allow for 4 player on the screen at once. Banshot Billiards supports up to 3 players, but they're all pool games so you could litterally multiply the players and do "teams"

all the other XBLA games either support 2 players or no local multi.

The problem with 4 player split screen is that it's computationally intensive.  Instead of rendering 1 screen at full detail, the screen must be chopped up into 4 screens at lower resolution.  The graphics tend to suffer and people just don't like that.  The advent of networking makes this a moot point because you can just play over a LAN or Live with MORE players at optimal resolution.  I miss the 4P split too, but I hope to see more party games (especially on XBLA) because of it.  C'mon Bomberman!

Crybabies. When I was a kid we had to walk 3 miles, barefoot, thru the snow, uphill, to the one kid's house that had a video game system. Thirty of us would crowd around a 13" B&W TV and wait patiently to play. It's good to play together.

I have to agree, being a huge fan of the Lan party, not having the ability to hook 4 360's and play Quake or COD2 is a real bummer.

GRAW will do the LAN support, but the screen is so filled with HUD and bull that you don't need, you can barely see what's going on as often, there is writing in front of your reticle.

I agree, in SP the HUD is no problem at all.   I'm saying it cramps the corner when it's 4 player split screen.  I have a 36 inch and the corner I was on was all HUD.  We even turned off the cross comm but with 16 people playing, there was a stream of words that block the top half of the screen.
