Ever Have That Feeling...
« on: April 06, 2006, 04:41:00 PM »

Well I used to play GRAW and it was great until I saw the leader boards. I was in about 25th place. Then I thought I can get higher. So I play and I play and get to the top 10. The highest place I got to was 5th. Then I keep playing but I notice its not fun. I found myself playing just for the leaderboards. So I stopped and sold it. Anyone feel like that in any other game?

i played marble blast ultra for a long time and thought i was doing really well and then looked at how fast other people were finishing levels. i got so pissed when i see a level that took me 1:30 beaten by someone else in 7 seconds.

yea my friend ruined halo for me. He practiced the game, so he knew every nook and cranny of every single map, so he could be the most 1337. Never played halo 1 again it makes me sad

Not really, actually for me it makes the game more intense and challenging to go on the leader boards or get a high level such as Halo 2.

Nope, because I NEVER play ranked matches in any game... I just don't care about the stats, i only play unranked and find you get a more enjoyable game. Instead of 15 out fo the 16 people using sniper rifles you get 16 guys running around on the attack, much more fun

ditto man.  I don't feel like I have to prove something by being on a leaderboard.  I love just playing and having fun.  I like GRAW but I enjoy COD2 much more now because its more run and gun and that's the way I like it.

Not necessarily the leaderboards, but in some games, chasing achievements has stripped the fun out of them. It's like, "Oh, I better get this achievement!!!" Then I think about why I should (for cosmetic reasons), and I notice the game loses some fun value.

I do laugh to the achiement bitches from time to time. I hate the whole concept, it just stinks like a so big corporate calculated bs to get players hooked on getting all games and achievements that I decided not to get involved with it.

'Yes, we have the studies here, according to which players feel more special if they're rewarded with some shiny pixel badges.'

I like playing just for the sake of it, not awards nor do I find it rewarding in any way to have to search for hours for some stupid hidden birds, instead of just concentrating on completing the game.

I agree with you 100%

That's why i stopped playing halo 2 on xblive all together.  There was one too many of times i lost my cool in a sea of profanity and projectile controllers.  Just not worth it.  I know my limits.  Video games are ment to be fun, not frustrating.

I wish all xblive shooters were set up like the new CoD2 MP, with one section for ranked games and another for non ranked games.  Both equal with the same amount of game types.

Well crystallized.

I do feel more frustrated with (online) games than I used to, thanks to rankings and achievements. It's more of a task of constant accomplishing than just having good old fashion fun with just gaming.

I got frustrated with GRAW as well, but it was the controls that was bothering me.   I feel like I need to take a college course to get that game down.

I agree to a point with the achievments..... but I do think achievments get you involved more with the game and it also brings more replay value........ I like checking the list and seeing what others have accomplished so I go out and try to.... you can look at my score and see that I really don't accomplish much in video games lol but its still fun to try....
