Which Arcade Game To Get?
« on: March 29, 2006, 06:05:00 AM »

After geometry wars, the next best game to get is marble blast.
There are not many that will disagree with this.
(maybe a few, but for the most part marble blast and geo wars are the games to get)

You don't need anyone here to tell you what you're going to like. Decide for yourself. Download the trials, and purchase the one you like best.  rolleyes.gif

yeah definitely, I myself have downloaded just about every Trial Live game avaible... If you decide to buy it just unlocks it, you wont actually have to download it again.

IMO the 5 best Live Arcade games (in no particular order)
-Hexic
-Geometry Wars
-Marble Blast Ultra
-Bankshot Billiards 2
-Feeding Frenzy

I probably wouldn't have bought Bankshot Billiards but like you I got it free with the Live Starter kit (actually my GF bought the kit for herself so I got the game by proxy tongue.gif ) I'm glad she did because it's easily one of my favorite games and really great to play if you have 1 or 2 friends (particularly non-gamers) who want to play a quick and easy pickup game.

If you're looking for Gameplay almost IDENTICAL to geometry wars check out, Crystal Quest, Mutant Storm Reloaded, Smash TV, and Robotron. All of those games have the same style gameplay as geometry wars, I've heard lots of good things about mutant storm and Crystal Quest is a good distraction (but not really worth 800MP if you ask me) Smash TV I really like (but more more nostalgia reasons) and both Smash TV and Robotron are based off of their arcade classics. Also Robotron and Smash TV offer multiplayer, which is something the other games don't have.

I recommend the same as Metaldevil, download the trials, play them, and decide. Most of them let you play well into the game. I bought Wik beacuse I tried the demo, liked it, bought it. Great game by the way, very original.

Wait for Street Fighter 2 biggrin.gif

I think I've almost played every trial arcade game.  of course geo wars, feeding frenzy was cool, Wik is different - I liked it, astropop isn't that bad if you like a puzzle, marble blast is great but i suck at the hard levels, i don't know.  they're all pretty fun.  just download and try em out smile.gif

I would recommend Geometry wars. I got headaches playing it after awhile and got kinf of shakey. Probably from all the flashing light and my age. Fun game though!

For the time being, I like Robotron because it is insanely difficult. The co-op is more fun than you would expect it to be. It's the true measure of a gamer. Street Fighter II is going to be a must own, but when I couldn't tell you.

yeah it was released a few days ago, I d/led the demo, it's pretty fun, reminds me of KLAX if you ever played that game. They tried to add some story line to it... it was kind of interesting but overall I didn't really get into it, it was worth a download but not my 800MP  wink.gif

YES I love Fuzion Frenzy, Whenever I have friends over at some point someone decides that they need to steal some gems and the Xbox gets fired up...  smile.gif  I'd love that game to get re-incarnated as a XBLA game or at least hit the BC list.

I downloaded mutant storm, robotron and smashtv. I don't like the old school games. I'll try and explain that better. Geometry wars is awesome, but they've made it better. Robotron and smashtv look like they're just being emulated, which i think they are, no better graphics or anything.
Geometry wars isn't a classic arcade game. The "Retro" version was a joke mini game created for PGR2, and the Evolved version is the logical sequel. Smash TV and Robotron are "ARCADE PERFECT" renditions of their respective originals, so they look play and feel exactly like they do in the arcade, people who enjoy the classics typically prefer it that way. I'm sure you'd get a lot of people pissed off if you messed with Mario Bros or Ms Pac Man in an attempt to "improve" the graphics or gameplay. The only thing they added was online scoreboards and multiplayer over Live (as opposed to sitting next to the person) which really doesn't change the game at all.
