i dont care much for the FF series or MMOs in general, but the prospect of the title selling consoles is always good news.  well a couple of days ago square said that they are waiting on developing for the ps3 until they get final hardware.

but now there is a next gen MMO in the works for a next gen console and Vista:

so with all this being reported in the last few days, im thinking that there is a good chance that the next MMO in the FF series will be coming to the 360.  though this means very little even if true, it just shows that square really is going to be developing at least some games for the 360 which is good news for the system itself.  now if only we can get the next installment of the RPG on the system then maybe it would turn around in japan.

if it actually utilizes the various features of XBL then it might be worth getting, the thing that annoys me most about FFXI is that it uses all the proprietary PlayOnline crap... not to mention the game is already 2 years old, FFXI is a lost cause IMO... FFXI-2 might be interesting though.

now if FFXII were coming to the 360, THEN I might get excited... unfortunately I think it's still a PS2 exclusive

I agree with Twisted.   The Play-Online garbage is exactly that... garbage.   I like the idea of the MMORPG but I thought FFXI had horrible implementation.  Starting the game leaves you feeling lost and confused in a huge world, and the social interaction felt forced to me.  

A non-MMO Final Fantasy would be the jam.  Any turn-based RPG from Square would be great on the 360.  Their other projects are long overdue for sequels (like Chrono Trigger/Cross and Xenogears).

getting yet another ps2 port doesnt interest me at all, especially when most of the people i talked to (all who love the FF series) say that they didnt care for FFXII.  getting the next installment of the FF series actually taking advantage of next-gen technology would sound better IMO.

as for the whole FFXI-2 thing, i dont think they would stray too far away from their playonline service, they did spend money creating it and are spending money mantaining it, so maybe they could better implement LIVE features into the game, but i dont see them ditching the service entirely.  

again, i love RPGs but the FF series never really interested me, granted im sure the stories are great it gets annoying real fast that every 5 steps you have to enter another battle.  this only means anything to me because of the attention that it could bring to the 360.

  FFXII doesn't exist yet, it's scheduled for release some time in the next few months

are you refering to FFX-2? ("ten-two" as opposed to "twelve", two completely different games)

X-2 is a whole other story, the major complaint with X was that it was too linear, too short, etc. etc. So Square took what the gamers were complaining about and made a sequel that "fixed" those things... then the games hated it even more.

That's what you get when you sell out and do what people want as opposed to what you think would make a great game. FF fans have no grounds to complain about X-2 because they designed it.

I personally like Japanese style RPGs more the American Style, it's more thought based then action based.

I wouldn't care if we got a PS2 port, Square does well with what the PS2 has to offer and I'd be just as entertained with PS2 level graphics in 720p. Becides square does good with their PC ports, I would suspect it'd be the same if they did a 360 port.

i know FFX-2 is the only direct sequal in the FF series and thats not what i was refering to.  i know that FFXII doesnt exist yet but those that have played the demo said they dont care for the play mechanics.  i know that anything would be better then nothing but one of the reasons that i cant wait for the ps3 and revolution to come out is so we can put this last gen behind us and start concentrating on using next-gen technology on these systems.  i prefer japanese RPGs as well but the FF just never has done it for me, the grandia, skies arcadia, and others (shining series, PSO for ex.) are the ones i like.

From what I remember reading several years ago, Xenogears is actually the last installment in the series, eventhough it was released first. I think it's supposed to be a 6-part series where the first five are under the Xenosaga name, some of which have already been exclusive to PS2.

Chrono Trigger is also by far my favorite game of all time.  Followed closely by FFVII and Chrono Cross.  Xenogears was a really well made game.  Hell, I thought Brave Fencer Mushashi was great.  See a pattern here?  I love Square's games.  Unfortunatly I've missed out on a few like the Xenosaga and latter FF games.  Here's hoping that Square starts releasing some of these games on the 360

square should drop the MMO and go with classic single player turn based RPGs. those will always be better than an MMORPG imo. i remember FFIX was the first turn based RPG ive ever played and loved it. now they are my favorite types of single player games. we need some for xbox360 damnit!!
