think about it this way a movie costs 20-30$ and if you watch it twice you get 3-5 hours out of it. i know i will have alot more than 5 hours of enjoyment from games like GRAW, GEARS and PGR3.

I know you haven't thought that up because I saw it in a article but, I beleive that is the stupidest way of thinking of a game price by comparing it to a movie...

Trading games is not an option for me because not only might I want to play it again down the road, it's also an incredible waste of money considering what you've put into them.  What is it now at places like EB?  Trade 2 or 3 360 games to get one new one?

No 360 here yet, but Graw is the only game I would be willing to spend $60 on.  So yea I would be buying less games for sure.  Hell NES games were $40 new back in the day.  I know that there has been some decrease in the future value of money since then and an increase in inflation, but shit, it shouldn't take more than a day at minimum wage for someone to be able to buy a video game.  You can argue cost of development all you want, but development tools have improved and they are still spending about the same amount of time on 360 games if not less to get them to market atm.  Again I'm willing to spend $60 if its worth it, but it should not be the set price on new titles.

I think actually, for the xbox 360, this is probabley the most games I have ever bought for a system, aside from the 5 I initially bought with the original xbox (granted this was after the price had dropped to 180)

Probably the most I've bought in this amount of time (since release). I always buy a lot of games, but I rarely find time to play. blink.gif

COD2
Condemned
Kameo
PGR3
PD0 LE
DOA4
Full Auto
FNR3
Burnout Revenge
GRAW

pre-ordered :
The Outfit (for the faceplate)
Oblivion coll.

... and I'll probably buy every cool game that's released.

most games for the big three have costs that no one here ever realises as they think the hardware guys take "a %" they don't... they take a set amount.

for ps2 sony took $9 PER DISK

MS have similar costs that are not public afaik so I won't divulge... needless to say tho that with manufacturing costs on top a 360 game selling at less than $15 would not recoup the MANUFACTURING COSTS.

On top of that development time (in man hours) has increased massively, not to produce "gameplay" I might add... but to produce graphics... gameplay rarely requires more than 2/3 people in a cyclic development process with a couple of testers... graphics requires 30/40 artists, 4/5 programmers, 4/5 designers all putting their time into making the game look as the graphics whores want it... that would be SMALL game... very small.

to give you a perspective on this... the first 3 games I worked on had a TOTAL of 20 people including test, design, art, programming & production and thats WITH shared people across projects.

The team I'm currently on has 150+.

The price for games has gone up by ~20% on average from 49.99 to 59.99 (GBP or USD) ** some places may see different changes.

The man hours to produce a game taking 2 years... 20 people == 76,800
The man hours to produce a game taking 2 years... 150 people == 576,000

notice the "slight" difference.

I think a $10 hike is perfectly reasonable seeing as inflation should have seen games go FAR higher over the last 10 years.

I agree, and Im the consumer. I paid 100.00 or more goldeneye, I can sure as hell pay 60.00 for awesome 360 titles.

After spending 4 solid days playing a game like GRAW, I can say Id pay triple. I cant even put a price on an experience like this honestly. Someone asked me if I thought Kong and GUN were worth the $60.00 at a family party and I responded with a Yes, even though they were ports, I enjoyed them thoroughly and thats all that matters.

well, games i purchased were

bought and sold:
Perfect Dark (from gamefly for like 40 bucks, prolly going to sell on ebay for 35 or so)
NFS most wanted witha  10 off coupon (got for 50 bucks, sold on ebay for 40)
DOA 4 (bought for 60  mad.gif  sold for 40 on ebay )

kept:
call of duty 2, got for 50 bucks after 10 off coupon
recon, 60 bucks.

figure, if im going to pay that much, might as well play the hell out of it, and it the replay value is minimal, sell that shit while street value is still 80%+ what i paid for it.

no sense in having games sit around i never play.

Its not throwing away money if I will never use the game again......
If I never use it and sit it on my shelf I get the lump sum of 0 dollars
If I trade it in I get a little chunk to spend on a new game that I will play and enjoy
If you will buy/play the game again then ... yes it is throwing away money but in a situation like mine i dont usually make out too bad with trade ins

but you know how it sucks for canadians, TAX. One minute your buying a 69.99 cad game, the next moment it's like 84 cad dollars no joke.

Also, I don't like to buy used games, why bother risking if it will work or not when just spending 20 dollars more gurrantying it will work.

Yes! It feels like I'm essentially paying 100 bucks for a game.

I've been very patient.  I only bought one $60 game (doa4)
and one $30 off ebay.  (Kameo)

I think I'll just wait and get them all when they are maybe $30 used.

$60 is a bit steep, but I'm willing to pay for it if the game is good.  I think I've spent more games in the past 3 months than I had in the 3 years prior.   The 360 is worth it.

exactly!, nothing says you have to get games the moment they come out.

PDZ, Kameo, and PGR3 all started at $50
Condemned just dropped to $50
Amped 3 just dropped to $40

Theres 5 games right there that are all great and less then $60

Topspin 2 and Rockstar Table tennis will both start at $40

Alternativly the Limited Edition of Oblivion will be the highest priced 360 game yet at $70USD

The price hike for games was a long time coming, I'm actually impressed it hasn't happened sooner.

I've actually bought a lot of games as some of the other people here have done too. Here is my list in the order I purchased them smile.gif

Before launch:
NBA Live 06
PGR3
PDZ
NFS:MW

After launch:
Ridge Racer 6
Condemned
Dead or Alive 4
College Hoops 2k6
Burnout Revenge

XBLA:
Geometry Wars

I plan on buying either GRAW or Farcry, maybe even both.  Depends how I feel when I go to the store smile.gif

My little buying spree is fairly unlike me if I look at my original XBOX :x  I guess it is just my way of giving what I can until the 360 is modded, if it ever is (*keeps fingers crossed*)
