Can someone direct me to a turorial or a forum of some sort or if someone on here knows how tell me.  I want to make my own program for xbox.  A simple one that just copies a certain file to a certain directory and automaticly overwrites it.  Thats all it does.  Similar to boxplorers but thats the only thing i want it to do.  So........how?

the xbox sdk (XDK for short) is a package that contains stuff for the pc and the xbox. don't ask where to get because it's illegal and makes the software you compile with it also illegal if you're not a MS approved developper. here is a good tutorial on how to setup your xbox as a developpment xbox. you also need to know C++ and DirectX knowledge is also a plus.

ok i figured out how to make a program for the command prompt, telling it what to do step by step in command prompt or the exe i saved on my desktop.

Now my question is how do i customize it? You know, right now its just commands in command prompt but i want it to look like an actuall program (menus, pictures, sound, ect.) how do i do that?  And when im done, how do i get it to run on the xbox (make it from exe to xbe)?

i know a lot of people waiting for me to finish this program because it will be big for halo map modifying...so i dont want it to only be able to run on my xbox because of this .net and xdk, i want anyone to be able to run it for their E drive just like boxplorer. xmbc, ect.

how will this help me make a default.xbe though?

i downloaded Dev-C++ and im lost as hell  sad.gif

dev-c++ won't work. if your are going to getthe newest XDK version (5849) you will also need MS Visual Studio .NET 2002 or 2003. you will then need to install the XDK itself to be able to compile .XBE files (xbox executables). if you have absolutely no programming knowledge, don't start with the xbox. try programming C++ fow windows first and move on to the xbox when you know more. I've know C++ for just under a year now and i still have difficulty with the xbox...

i think making this is going to be a bit to difficult for you to do, however i'll explain why you need the XDK and visual studio .net

you need to use the XDK, there is no way around this, because the XDK actually builds your .xbe file, so no XDK = no .xbe = no xbox app. you must use visual studio .net because the XDK is an add on to it, after you install visual studio, you install the XDK, and one of your project options will be xbox program (or xbox project or something like that). the XDK will not install onto anything other then visual studio. you say you want everyone to be able to use your tool so you don't want to use .net and the XDK, however thats how EVERY xbox program is made. you would submit your tool to xbins who hosts the tools.  you definately have the right idea however starting small with a fairly simple program like that.

Can you get the XDK to work with Visual Studio 6? Is that possible at all?

you need the (un)official MS XBOX Development Kit 4627 or better(sorry,i don't know where to get it..) along with the latest MS Visual Studio .NET
You could also use the OpenXDK,but it is still in an early stage of development.Don't expect very much of it though...

saddly the OpenXDK is only good in potential. its not very powerful and for this reason the only things that have been made with it are the shutdown and reboot xbe's. your best bet is to go to newsgroups and get visual studio .net 2003 (not 6) and the newest MS XDK. lantus's libSDLx libraries are an excellent resource and they can be obtained at xbins.
